ANGELES CITY– The Pinoy Gumising Ka Movement (PGKM) assailed Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda and Mayor Condradito De La Cruz for the continuous operation of prominent hog farms in Porac town, causing inconvenience to businesses and adversely affecting the health of residents.
“The earlier directive of the governor to Mayor De La Cruz on not to issue business permits to hog farms until the complaints had been resolved fell on deaf ears,” said Sonny Dobles, environmental desk chief of PGKM.
“We can also assume that De La Cruz gave permits to the piggeries because they are operating harmoniously and abusing with impunity,” Dobles said.
He added Pineda should reprimand and even punish De La Cruz for disobeying her order and derailing the priority programs on health of the provincial government.
“There was no action on the part of the governor given enough time,” he said, while hitting Pineda saying “the laudable health program of the governor is useless” due to the mishandling of the piggeries’ waste.
He added that “it’s also useless to give away medicines when we don’t stop the source of the disease.”
The PGKM noted that the foul smell and flies that goes along with it “had turned from bad to worse.”
“Is this the way to help businesses thrive by letting flies compete with the people eating? Is this the way to promote tourism by spreading stench smell caused by piggeries?” he said.
Dobles said “De La Cruz is obviously pro-piggeries which is not beneficial to the people in general.”
Jess Santos, a native of this city who now resides in Ontario, Canada, said he had not eaten well in a restaurant in downtown Porac due to the foul smell and flies.
“How can we attract visitors, especially from abroad, if we don’t put premium on cleanliness of the surroundings?” he said -- DC
