Cops caught in crossfire;Jollibee manager hurt

BANGUED, Abra – A police special operations force was caught in a cross fire between two groups at Poblacion here prompting them to retaliate which resulted to the wounding of a Jollibee manager.

A police report said on Nov. 28 at about 2:20 a.m., three SAF personnel were on patrol aboard a tricycle driven by Jhonny B. Alcartado and while traversing corner Rizal and Taft streets at Zone 5 between Jollibee and Land Bank, two groups of male persons shouted at them prompting the driver to stop.

The shouting was followed by bursts of gunfire coming from opposing groups.

The report said the three cops retaliated to defend themselves.

During the firefight, the manager of Jollibee identified as Fernando VirayTiangson, 36, married, and a resident of Agoo, La Union was hit on his right thigh and was brought to Abra Provincial Hospital for medical treatment and then subsequently transferred to the Seares Hospital.

Police found 15 fired cartridge cases from a Cal. 45, ten firedbullet cases from a Cal. 380 and one deformed bullet from an unknown firearm.

Search operations launched by all police units in Bangued, resulted to the arrest of Reggie B. Regunton, 21, single, student at Abra School Institute of Science and Technology in Bangued. and resident of Cabuloan, Bangued.

Regunton was on board a tricycle going to the Christian Hospital for medical treatment due to gunshot wound on his left foot when he was arrested.
