P2.1M marijuana burned in Benguet plantations

KAPANGAN, Benguet – Marijuana plants worth P2.1 million were uprooted and burned here at a plantation Nov. 30 at Sitio Magsad, Barangay Gadang, Kapangan in an eradication drive by police.
The operation was conducted by town police led by Senior Insp. Onofred B. Willie and Provincial Public Safety Company led by Chief Insp. Darnel T. Dulnuan under supervision of the provincial police director Senior Supt. Benjamin M. Lusad in coordination with the municipal government.
A police report by regional information officer Engelbert Soriano said a day earlier, operatives conducted a marijuana eradication drive at barangays Gadang and Sagubo in the town.
The team reportedly conducted information drive earlier among residents on ill effects of illegal drugs while checking the area for possible marijuana plantations.
The first discovered plantation was planted with 2, 200 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P440, 000.
The second was planted with around 2,000 marijuana seedlings valued at P88, 000.
Another plantation was also discovered at SitioGongigong planted with 17,600 marijuana seedlings valued at P 774, 400 and another site planted 4, 400 fully grown marijuana valued at P880,000.
The marijuana plants were all uprooted and burned on site and samples were also taken for evidence and turned over to the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group of the Benguet Police Provincial Office for proper disposition.
