Marcos 99th birthday activities set in Ilocos

BATAC, Ilocos Norte -- In celebration of
former President Ferdinand E. Marcos 99th birthday celebration, Ilocos Norte
will pay tribute to its favorite son through a series of activities to be
highlighted by a candle-lighting ceremony today (Sept 11.)
An
opening program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte was held at
the Robinsons annex activity area.
In
the same venue, the Makoy Literary and Arts Contest, also sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte, will start at 10:45 a.m. with the FEM Quiz
Show to be participated by high school students across the province.
It
will be followed by Kalesa painting contest and FEM debate cup.
On
Sept. 10, a mini-exhibition of posters was launched. A throwback OPM hits medley quartet singing
contest will be held simultaneously at the annex activity area.
They
will be followed by the Pinoy tango, creative story-telling and ‘Ferdie and
Imelda’ sing-a-like and look-a-like contests.
FEM’s
actual birthday (Sept 11) will begin with a cook-off featuring Ilocano
delicacies and dinengdeng (a vegetable broth with fish paste), the former
president’s favorite dish. The event, sponsored by the Bakers and Restaurants
Association of Ilocos Norte, will take place at the Imelda Cultural Center in
Batac City.
The
celebration will culminate with a mass at the Immaculate Concepcion
Batac Church and dinner at the FEM
Presidential Center.
