BATAC, Ilocos Norte -- In celebration of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos 99th birthday celebration, Ilocos Norte will pay tribute to its favorite son through a series of activities to be highlighted by a candle-lighting ceremony today (Sept 11.)
An opening program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte was held at the Robinsons annex activity area.
In the same venue, the Makoy Literary and Arts Contest, also sponsored by the Rotary Club of Metro Ilocos Norte, will start at 10:45 a.m. with the FEM Quiz Show to be participated by high school students across the province.
It will be followed by Kalesa painting contest and FEM debate cup.
On Sept. 10, a mini-exhibition of posters was launched.  A throwback OPM hits medley quartet singing contest will be held simultaneously at the annex activity area.
They will be followed by the Pinoy tango, creative story-telling and ‘Ferdie and Imelda’ sing-a-like and look-a-like contests.
FEM’s actual birthday (Sept 11) will begin with a cook-off featuring Ilocano delicacies and dinengdeng (a vegetable broth with fish paste), the former president’s favorite dish. The event, sponsored by the Bakers and Restaurants Association of Ilocos Norte, will take place at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City.
The celebration will culminate with a mass at the Immaculate Concepcion Batac Church  and dinner at the FEM Presidential Center.
