Farmer nabbed for murder in Kalinga
RIZAL, Kalinga – A man wanted for murder was nabbed here by a police team led by Supt. Francisco Bulwayan.


Arrested was AnastacioBatario aka Tasyo, 42, farmer and a resident here of Barangay Macutay.
Batario who was arrested March 6, was listed number nine most wanted person in the province.
A police report said Batario was responsible for shooting to death Albert Fronda and severely injuring his brother ReynanFronda in Macutay on Dec. 2007.

The arrest was made by virtue of warrant of arrest for murder and frustrated murder issued by Honorable Judge Marcelino K. Wacas of Regional Trial Court, Branch 25, Bulanao, Tabuk, Kalinga. Batario is now detained.

Earlier, a police team under supervision of Kalinga police director Senior Supt. Ernesto Gaab arrested Ceasar “Boy” Baawa on Feb. 15.

Baawa was the top most wanted person in Cordillera for the fourth quarter of 2011.
Baawa killed Noel Binayog and Jose Barungan in BulanaoTabuk on June of 2005.


La Trinidad resident gets 16 years for shabu sale

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Regional Trial Court recently sentenced a resident here after he was found guilty of illegal possession of shabu and sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and a fine of P300,000.

Court records identified the convict as identified as Rimando “Allen” Cadap, 35, farmer, native of Lagawe, Ifugao, and resident of km 5, Barangay Pico here.

Cadap was arrested Nov. 22, 2008 during an anti-drug operation by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency- Cordillera.

The operation, which was then participated by now PDEA – Cordillera regional director, Gil Cesario P. Castro, resulted in the confiscation of .63 gram shabu valued at P9,000.

A PDEAA press statement said after three years and three months of trial, Cadap was sentenced in accordance with Republic Act 9165, the new drug law.


Young farmer convicted to life term for marijuana deal
BAKUN, Benguet — A marijuana cultivator, who hails from the remote town, was recently found guilty and sentenced to life in jail for selling marijuana bricks in in the province.

The regional trial court also fined Belban D. Sic-open, then 23, Legab, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet, P500,000.

Nearly three years and a month prior to conviction, Sic-open was busted with P669,207.50 worth of dried marijuana bricks when he sold these to an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency– Cordillera in an operation Feb. 4, 2009, in Poblacion, Kibungan town also in the province.

Nabbed from Sic-open during the buy-bust operation were 30 blocks of marijuana.

Painter arrested for selling shabu to cop
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet-- Nabbed in a buy-bust operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency--Cordillera on March 7, was a signboard painter in La Trinidad, Benguet who was found out to be not only peddling shabu but also sniffing the dangerous drug.

Arrested was Mark Fernando, 32, native of San Fernando, Pampanga and resident here of Barangay Upper Cruz.

According to police report, Fernando sold a heat-sealed, transparent plastic sachet of .03 gram of methamphetamine hydrochloride for P1,500 to a PDEA agent, who posed as buyer during the anti-drug operation at Km. 3, La Trinidad.

When Fernando was brought later to the PDEA regional office, officers noticed his bloodshot eyes.

Urine sample taken from Fernando gave positive test results for shabu.

Fernando reportedly supplied shabu to out-of-school youth, and that he was the close rival of a businessman who was a shabu and hashish dealer apprehended by PDEA anti-narcotic operatives in November last year.

Violent customer jailed for hitting bizwoman
BAGUIO CITY-- -A 25 year old man was jailed here after hitting a 44-year-old businesswoman March 8.

The suspect was identified as Sherwin BiwitHimmayong, billiard setter/driver, native of HingyonIfugao and resident here of San Carlos Heights.

According to the statement of the victim identified as Madeline Vazquez, of Banaue, Ifugao and resident of Sumulong Street, the incident happened around 8 a.m. March 8.

Vazquez reported she asked the suspect and his companion to move out from her establishment where they were creating trouble with other customers.

Following this, the suspect allegedly kicked the left leg and stomach of the victim and banged her head on the table.

The victim later filed slight physical injuries against the suspect. -- Bryan Dulay

Kalinga cops confiscate P.5 M marijuana bricks
TABUK CITY, Kalinga - A composite team of law enforcers recently confiscated 20 marijuana bricks found loaded in a passenger jeepney plying the Bontoc-Tabuk road.

According to Supt. Lester Lango of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, the illegal drugs, weining around 20 kg, and valued at P5000,000, were packed inside a travelling bag, a back pack, and a small cartoon.

Laygo said a tipster led to the confiscation of the contraband, however, no suspect was arrested.
He said Chief Insp. Joseph Bayongasan, head of the provincial police intelligence section, received March 2 a text message from a concerned citizen that marijuana bricks were being transported from Tinglayan to Tabuk City.

Immediately, he formed a team to track the passenger jeep where the prohibited drug was loaded.

Police said no passenger of the PUV admitted ownership of the contraband.

The confiscated items were taken to the provincial poice office for documentation and disposal.

57 year old woman, victim of salisi gang
BAGUIO CITY-- A case of alleged theft (salisi) was filed with the city police office here last week.
The victim was identified as Corazon Aragones Porte, businesswoman and resident here of Barangay Dontogan.

Porte said a man posed as a customer in a dental clinic, opened her bag and carted away her belongings.

She said she lost her coin purse containing P700, a Sophie Martin wallet that contained 8,000, cell phone, credit cards, ATM cards, SSS ID, Airlines ID, Cedula, assorted pictures and receipts.
The victim said the incident happened around 1:25 p.m. of March 8 at Sky Dental Clinic, Otek Business Center, Otek Street.

Employee steals co-worker’s phone
BAGUIO CITY -- A kitchen supervisor filed a case of theft against a kitchen helper last week for allegedly stealing his cell phone.

The culprit was identified as Joel Magunes, 31, of Poblacion, Rosario, La Union and residing at Bell Church area along km 3, La Trinidad, Benguet.

According to complainant Julius Leonard Simbayon, 27, the crime happened around 8 p.m. March 8, at Concoction Restaurant located at General Luna Road, Baguio.

Simbayon said while on duty, he charged his LG 360 cell phone worth P3,500 which he placed at the top of a rack at a table in the kitchen.

He went to the comfort room and after coming out, he noticed that his cell phone’s music stopped and that only the charger of his phone was left on the table.

An employee identified as Anthony Po saw the suspect walking out from the kitchen.
