BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed punong barangays here to guard their respective waste collections points round-the-clock to stave off waste dumpers who indiscriminately dispose their wastes even beyond the garbage collection schedules as the problem worsened.
The mayor specifically alerted the heads of barangays ABCR, Lower Magsaysay, P. Burgos, Cresencia Village, Kayang Extension, Military Cut-Off and DPS which were identified as problem spots where piles of garbage remain even after the regular collection schedule.
Solid waste management division chief Dominador Urbanozo said despite repeated appeals of the division, the said barangays continued to have uncollected garbage due to the non-observance of some residents in bringing out their garbage beyond the collection time.
The mayor said this could also be the handiwork of unscrupulous individuals who come from other barangays or even from neighboring towns of Benguet.
He said enhanced monitoring should be employed to identify the perpetrators and hold them responsible for violation of Republic Act No. 9003.
“We appreciate your active cooperation in the implementation of the city government’s no segregation, no collection policy…(but be) directed to ensure that strategic garbage collection points guarded round the clock to prevent unscrupulous motorists and individuals from dumping their waste that contribute to the piled up unsegregated waste in your respective areas of jurisdiction,” the mayor told the punong barangays.
The problem areas are the portion of Rimando Road along ABCR barangay; the whole stretch of Lower Magsaysay Road; both sides of Bokawkan in Cresencial Village; portion of Naguilian Road; portion of Upper Session Road and sidewalks before Quezon Elementary School and fronting Caltex Gas Station as part of the Military Cut-Off barangay and portion of Upper Session Road covered by DPS barangay.
