BAGUIO CITY – The grounds of the Baguio Convention Center are now being used as temporary parking area for bus lines while Gov. Pack Road is being repaired in the summer resort.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan bared this as he clarified issues on temporary transfer of buses’ parking, loading and unloading at the BCC area.

The request for complete closure of the said road, section K-0249+001-K0249+461, was approved earlier at the city council, as requested by the Department of Public Works and Highways represented by Baguio District Engineer IreneoGallato.

A portion of Gov. Pack road has been used as parking, loading, unloading and ticketing areas for buses thus the need for the transfer.

Accordingly, other venues were scouted for specific transport groups but it was only the BCC that can accommodate buses which includes maneuverability as to entrance and exit of buses.

The mayor said priorities being looked into in the transfer, were passengers’ comfort and safe maneuvering of the buses.

A ticketing area was also allotted, as with pay comfort rooms. Passengers may also be allowed use of some of the Baguio Convention Center facilities, the mayor said.

Vendors who earlier appealed for selling spaces at the BCC could not be accommodated at this time, the mayor said, given the need for more parking area.

The matter was also discussed at the emergency meeting of the barangay officials and Traffic and Transport Management Committee.

The road repairs which started April 9 are scheduled to be done by June 9, but were assured by the contractor to be completed before the two months are over.

A round-the-clock work schedule is being implemented for the road to be done before the rainy season, it was learned.

All measures are being done for the good of everybody, the safety of the riding public and motorists, for at least two months, the mayor ended.
