BAGUIO
CITY – Bus lines now occupying the Baguio Convention Center parking lot as
loading and unloading area will have to wait for the second week of July before
being able to utilize Gov. Pack road as such.
This
was confirmed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan during the transport and traffic
management committee meeting at city hall last week.
A
thorough curing period for the repaired road is needed, it was known.
The
repaired road is part of the Department of Public Works and Highways
rehabilitation, reconstruction, upgrading of damaged roads project.
Bus
operators present during the meeting reported that the present location is
accident prone and slippery, thus the need for the immediate return to the
former loading site.
The
parking areas have also been properly designated to each line and the
memorandum of agreement signed between the bus-owner-leasee and the city
government.
The
mayor however persuaded the operators to coordinate among themselves to make
the area safer for their vehicles and passengers as well.
No
re-routing for buses, as suggested, is possible, it was also known.
It
was during the same meeting that roads under repair were evaluated as to
completion. As to the mayor, some road projects have been completed ahead of
schedule or on time.
Some
projects, however, have been deemed late, the mayor said.
Criticisms
abound for the contractor having uncompleted road projects, and for public
officials including us, the mayor bewailed.
Uncompleted
road contracts have caused traffic jams specially with the opening of classes,
thus complaints from the public have often been heard, the mayor said.
The
erring contractor was said to have been given a final warning by the DPWH
district office as to his performance. The contractor was directed to present
detailed program of activities as to the road repairs, or face rescinding of
his work contract, it was known.
