BAGUIO CITY-- The Brotherhood for Peace (BFP) condemned the hazing
incident that claimed the life of a 22 year old law student from Tarlac.
BFP president Jason Balag-ey said his group composed of youth in
the city, is strongly condemning the hazing incident involving Marc Andre
Marcos, a San Beda law student.
Marcos died last week at the De La Salle University Medical Center
in Dasmariñas, Cavite after being tortured. He was buried.
Balagey said that the act of hazing or violence before entering a
fraternity or a group is not right since the group should be promoting
brotherhood in a good manner.
He said hazing was barbaric since the people behind this violence
did not show and know the value of life.
Balagey organized the BFP
in 2009 to address the issues enveloping the different gang members in
the city particularly to create unity and prevent problem among the members.
It was also aimed at making them active participants in helping
the city become advocates for youth development in the areas of drug
prevention, cleanliness, and tourism with the end goal of heightening their
moral values.
In 2010, President Aquino awarded the BFP as one of the Ten
Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) in the country.
Meanwhile, lawyer Edgar Avila advised youth joining groups such as
fraternities or brotherhood to be aware.
“If you are joining a group and you undergo mental, psychological
or physical beating or even symbolic beating, this is illegal under the law.”
