BAGUIO
CITY — City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said last week the city government will
adopt Korea’s environmental program to turn Baguio like its sister city Taebec.
Domogan
have just arrived from his foreign trip to Korea to attend a world
environmental protection summit.
“There
are many areas in Korea that are similar to Baguio, like its sister city
Taebec, which was able to protect its pristine mountains and parks,” Domogan
pointed out.
“Water
conservation program and discipline of the people in Taebec were so impressive,
I wished Baguio City could do the same,” he said.
It
was learned that this City of Pines became a member of the Hall of Fame for
being selected several times in a yearly competition as the “cleanest and greenest”
urban area in the Philippines.
Domogan
said that the Koreans are now benefiting with government efforts to protect and
preserve its environment along with the future generations with respect to
their reserved supply of fresh water.
Domogan,
meanwhile, expressed his apprehension that with limited funds, the city
government here could not pursue all the programs he desired to be implemented
in the city to protect and preserve the environment.
“This
is why we have to do our best to further improve our local sources of revenues
so that we can raise the funds we need to pursue programs and projects, which
could benefit our environment and people,” he said.
