BAGUIO CITY-- The Bureau of
Internal Revenue is warning the public against
dubious solicitation for a supposed dinner for a cause to be held here.
The Office of the BIR regional
director of the Cordillera said that they have received reports that a group of
individuals posing as BIR employees have been soliciting cash donations for a
dinner for a cause scheduled on Nov. 3 at Camp John Hay.
BIR-Cordillera regional director
Eduardo Bajador said there was no
existing project or program sanctioned or given permit by the BIR-Cordillera
for such collection of monetary donations from taxpayers.
“The management strongly denies
such acts,” Bajador said. “Don’t fall prey to the alleged BIR solicitation for
a dinner for a cause!,” he said.
The revenue agency reported at
least four medical practitioners have been victimized by the group and the
doctors have given out some amounts as their donation to the dinner for a
cause.
According to reports by the BIR,
the same group also posed as accountants
and members of the Government
Association of Certified Public Accountants (GACPA).
They reportedly victimized
another victim.,
The BIR advised the tax paying
public to contact the nearest police station if someone approaches them posing
as BIR employees soliciting.
Illegal activities such as
solicitation are rampant as the Christmas season is on so the BIR is advising
the public to be more aware of transactions they make or people they deal with.
