SM offers scholarship to poor HS graduates

BAGUIO CITY -- SM is now accepting applicants for
its scholarship program. SM Foundation, Inc. offers you this opportunity to be a
college scholar and have a better future.
The SM Foundation College
Scholarship Program was established by SM Foundation and helps provide quality
education to deserving underprivileged high school graduates.
A student may apply for the
scholarship program if he or she is a graduate of a public high school.
An applicant should also
have a household income per year of P150,000 or less and his or her fourth year
weighted average grade must be at least 88% in the second or third grading
period.
Fourth year high school 4students
who may wish to avail of the scholarship program may enroll in Bachelor of
Science (BS) in Computer Science, BS in Information Technology , BS in
Information Management, BS in Computer Engineering, BS in Electronics and
Communications Engineering, BS in Elementary Education, BS in Secondary
Education major in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or English, and BS
in Accountancy BSC/ BSBA, major in Accountancy.
Interested applicants should
completely fill out the SM College Scholarship Application Form, which is now
available at the Customer Service of SM Department Store located at the Upper
Ground Floor and at the Admin Office of SM City Baguio.
Students should also submit
a clear photocopy of their F138 or Fourth Year High School report card with the
second or third grading period’s weighted average and a photocopy of their 2008
Income Tax Return or Certificate of Non-Filing of Income.
SM Foundation will also
require hopeful scholars to submit the certificate of passing the entrance test
in their school of choice by December 20, 2012. Qualified applicants will be
notified by the Foundation.
Aside from the scholar’s
tuition, SM Foundation will also provide allowances. SM is also encouraging its
scholars to earn extra income by offering them jobs during summer
vacation. The graduates are not required
to work for SM as payback for their education.
Also, SM Foundation is
proud to its SMFI scholars who topped the recent Certified Public Accountants
(CPA) Board Exams 2012. Wayjorie A. Depayso, magna cum laude from Saint Louis
University-Baguio ranked third while Marc Rodolf Arca,summa cum laude from
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila placed fourth, JannenBarrona who graduated
summa cum laude from University of the East Caloocan placed sixth while Bryan
B. Abanilla who graduated summa cum laude from Meycauayan College in Bulacan
placed ninth. For school year 2011-2012, 65 SM scholars graduated with a degree
in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Of this batch, 52 took the recent CPA
board exams wherein 48 scholars passed. This translates to a remarkable passing
rate of 92% for the SM scholars.
They are among the
1,500 that have graduated with the support of the SM Foundation’s education
program. Through its scholarship unit, it supports promising students who have
no means of achieving higher education. At any one time, SM Foundation
maintains 1,200 bright college scholars coming from different provinces and
municipalities nationwide and who are enrolled in various courses and in 80
universities and colleges, that ensuring that they will have a better life.
