Cops arrest tanod’s ‘killer’ in Abra town

DOLORES, Abra -- A 29-year old man was arrested here Monday by police for allegedly being involved in the killing of a barangay tanod during a drinking spree in Barangay Mudiit.

Senior Supt. Clint Bayacsan, officer-in-charge of Abra Provincial Police Office, identified the murder suspect as Willie Gandelara Bautista, of Mudiit.

Police investigation showed the suspect and victim Jacinto Eric Ferdinand Atmosfera Velasco, 35, Mudiit barangay tanod were  having a drinking spree when misunderstanding between the two suddenly occurred.

           

Velasco allegedly hacked the suspect but the latter retaliated by shooting the former before fleeing the crime scene.

           

The victim was immediately rushed to the Sta. Teresita Wellness Center in Dolores town but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

           

Bautista was arrested by responding policemen from Dolores and Tayum town while being treated for hack wounds at the Abra Provincial Hospital.

           

He still remains confined in the hospital under the close watch by law enforcers while a case for murder is being prepared against him.
