Ifugao towns start cash-for-work program

LAGAWE, Ifugao -- Seven municipalities of this province recently implemented the cash-for-work program (CWP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development as financial assistance to victims of typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel” last year.

Minda Romero of the DSWD field office here said  P3,020,170.00 was disbursed and payment was made to the municipalities of Aguinaldo, Asipulo, Hingyon, Hungduan, Lagawe, Lamut and Tinoc for beneficiaries  last week of October.

The CWP is a financial assistance to households and families displaced or affected by typhoons or calamities for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation.

Beneficiaries receive cash based on the prevailing regional wages in exchange for doing community projects such as repair and construction of damaged houses and community facilities, clean-up and garbage collection.

In the seven municipalities, beneficiaries worked to clear road and path obstructions, repaired Day Care Centers and rehabilitated communal irrigation systems in their communities.

The municipality of Lamut was paid the biggest amount of P743,925.00 with 429 beneficiaries; Lagawe with P619,125.00 for  its  715 beneficiaries and  Hingyon with P491,400.00 for 231 beneficiaries, and Tinoc with P237,900.00 for 122  recipients.

Asipulo  got  P350,220.00 covering  beneficiaries from 11 barangays; Aguinaldo with  P300,700.00 covering 4 barangays and  Hungduan with  P276,900.00  for its CWP workers.

Last year, Ifugao received P19,739,610.00 for 7,065 families from the 11 municipalities of the province who were victims of typhoon “Ondoy” and  beneficiaries of the cash for work and food for work programs.
