Kalinga benefits from DA funded projects

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – This province
benefitted from farm-to-market roads provided by the Department of Agriculture
in its bid to boost agriculture production in the countryside.
Norma Frances Damian, provincial planning and
development coordinator said two were
completed, one ongoing while five were
recently bidded out.
Total allocation provided to the eight FMRs was
P34.5 million.
She said two FMRs, the Aluminit road in
Santor, Rizal and Nambaran in this
city with project cost of P5 million
each were completed.
Ongoing was the P3.3M Bantay-Pataddog road also
of Tabuk.
Bided out were Belong-Manubal road in Tinglayan – P3.8
million; Guilayon in this city – P4.4M; Lakilak in Lubuagan – P3.3M; Dawayan in
Nambaran, Tabuk – P5M; and Mapacoin Pinukpuk worth P5 million.
“These were given in three tranches. The first
tranche was P10 million, 2nd tranche P11.5, and 3rd was P13 million,” she said
adding this was the package of agricultural intervention projects committed by
DA Secretary Proceso Alcala to the province.
According to the Office on Agricultural
Services, the agriculture infrastructure support projects given to Kalinga have
contributed to its present 370% rice sufficiency level, a significant increase
in rice production, and expansion in
rice production to more than 20,000 hectares.
