The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that power in the entire province of Abra and some parts of Ilocos Sur was shut down Jan. 29, Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Affected distribution firms were Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) and Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (Iseco).

All the 27 municipalities of Abra were out of power while the areas affected in Ilocos Sur were Sta. Maria, Narvacan, Santa, Burgos, San Esteban, Santiago, Candon, Sta. Lucia, Sta. Cruz, Tagudin, Suyo, Salcedo, Galimuyod, Banayoyo and Lidlidda.

The power outage was for the annual preventive maintenance and testing of power transformer No. 3 in Ilocos Sur.

NGCP North Luzon Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Officer Lilibeth P. Gaydowen said brownout in Abra was due to the technical measures the NGCP undertook.
