PINUKPUK, Kalinga -– The police of this town
recently confiscated illegally cut narra flitches abandoned near the river in
SitioCadamayan, Barangay Junction this municipality.
Pinukpuk Community Environment and Natural
Resources Office inventoried the illegal lumber that measured 513.76 board feet
and valued at P20,500.
Police provincial director Senior Supt.
Froilan Perez said the confiscation is under the intensified campaign on total
log ban pursuant to Executive Order 23 issued by Malacanang declaring a
moratorium on the cutting and harvesting of timber in the natural and residual
forests and creating the anti-illegal logging task force.
Few months ago, police foiled an attempt to
transport illegal narra flitches from this municipality, arrested the suspects
and impounded the lumber.
Based on recent apprehensions, police
confirmed that illegal logging here is secretly being perpetrated by
unscrupulous individuals despite the strict campaign.
This challenged authorities in Pinukpuk to be
more vigilant and serious to stop the illegal practice which apparently has
become a source of income to some people.
The illegal flitches are now temporarily kept
at the municipal police station ready to be turned over to the Cenro.
