Mayoral bet’s supporter killed by rivals in Ilocos

PAGUDPUD, Ilocos Norte -- A supporter of a mayoral candidate here was killed in a clash with a group that reportedly belonged to another mayoral bet Tuesday afternoon.

The fatality, identified only as “Asuncion,” was declared dead on arrival at the Bangui District Hospital.

Asuncion was a supporter of Mayor Matilde Sales.

Several others were reported injured in the incident.

One of them was identified as Ryan Calventas, driver of a van used by Asuncion’s group.

Supt. Jeffrey Gorospe, spokesman of the Ilocos Norte police, confirmed the incident but refused to give details. – Teddy Molina
