Baguio SPED cited as best in country

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan cited Monday the Department of Education-Cordillera Administrative Region Baguio City Special Education Center (SPED) for topping this year’s search for the Outstanding Sped Centers nationwide.
Baguio
City Division Superintendent Francis Cesar Bringas presented the awardees to
officials and employees of city hall during Mondays flag raising ceremony with
Baguio sped Center Principal Nino Tibbangay.
The
award was conferred by the Department of Education-Bureau of elementary
Education-Special Education Division during the 2013 National Conference on
Special Education held last November 14 at Punta Villa Resort, Iloilo City.
Also
awarded during the event are SPED teachers Maria Theresa Rimando who topped the
search for outstanding SPED Teachers handling children with giftedness and
Nancy Dumalili, 2nd placer in the search for outstanding receiving teachers.
The
award is given yearly by the Department of Education to schools catering to
gifted children and children with special needs with extensive screening by a
selection committee comprised by the National Association of Special Educators
(NASE).
It
is open to all Sped teachers of children with hearing and visual impairments,
learning and intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and gifted
children.
It is
also open to teachers handling regular classes, but at the same time rendering
dedicated and excellent service in educating children with special needs.
