VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The “2014 Longganisa
Festival” was celebrated here last week with residents celebrating the 13th
year anniversary of this World Heritage Village’s cityhood.
Mayor Eva Marie S.
Medina said this year’s festival was highlighted by three main activities tied
up with the Vigan specialty longganisa.
Aimed at attracting
tourists and visitors, these activities include a longganisa cookfest featuring
the making and presentation of delicious menu out from longganisa; the
longganisa street dancing parade; and the longganisa dance showdown.
In the longganisa
street dancing, the students from the Vigan National High School East will try
to defend the crown they won in last year’s category B (open category).
Four contingents from
different towns in the Ilocos region will participate in the category B
showdown while eight will compete in the elementary level or category A street
dancing contest.
The champion of each
category will receive a P100,000 cash prize; second placer, P70,000; and 3rd
placer, P50,000.00. The non- winning contigents will receive P20,000
consolation prizes.
“Our longganisa
festival is again bringing memorable attractions this year to entertain our
visitors and tourists who often flooded daily our city since Christmas season,”
said Medina.
