BANNA, Ilocos Norte – Two men were shot dead by motorcycle riding suspects here in Barangay Lorenzo Tuesday night.

Senior Insp. Joel Soriano, Banna town deputy chief of police, identified the victims as Gregorio Gayya Jr., and his brother George Gayya, both farmers and resident of Barangay 6, Bangsar, Banna town.

Investigation showed the shooting incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. The victims were on their way home riding a hand tractor when the suspects shot them several times.

The victims sustained serious injuries in the different parts of their bodies.

Soriano said police recovered 6 empty shells for caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene.  -- Freddie Lazaro

Cadavers found nearMagat river
BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya -- The bodies of three unidentified women were found in a vacant lot near the Magat River here Tuesday.

The three women were found with gunshot wounds in the head

Chief Ins­pector Rafael Pagalilauan, Bambang town’s chief of police, said the investigation is still ongoing.

It was reported that at about 2:30 a.m. last Tuesday, residents heard successive gunshots in the area.

At about 5:30 a.m., residents saw the victims’ cadavers at the riverbank of Magat River.

Police recovered packing tape and empty of bottles and cans of beer at the crime scene.

It was theorized that the three women might be victims of salvage.

Missing doc found dead in irrigation canal in Ecija
SCIENCE CITY MUNOZ, Nueva Ecija  – A female physician who was reported missing last June 6 was found dead the following day at the Casecnan irrigation here,  authorities said.

In a belated report to the regional police camp in Camp Olivas, Pampanga,  Senior  Supt. Crizaldo Nieves, Nueva Ecija police director, said the victim, Carolina Talens, 53, an ob-gyn, was last seen at around 8 a.m. on June 6 on her Isuzu Sportivo (with license plate ZJD 124) at the Gallego City General Hospital in the Science City of Muñoz. 

Talens failed to come home in Bocaue, Bulacan that night, and her family reported her missing to the police.

The following day, police got information that a body of a woman, clad only in her bra and underwear, was found floating in the Casecnan canal.

Nieves said police are now investigating the case and are looking for the victim’s car.

Teen jukie arrested in Candon City
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur -- A 16-year-old boy was arrested here ill by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region June 6.

Judge Antonio C. Reyes of Regional Trial Court Branch 61, Baguio City issued warrant for his arrest.

The teener is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002). -- Freddie G. Lazaro

Persons with disabilities office affairs office eyed
BAGUIO CITY — The city council is acting on the proposed ordinance that pushes for the creation of a Persons With Disability affairs office.

The ordinance proposed by Councilor Isabelo Cosalan Jr., committee chairman on employment, livelihood and cooperatives and PWD will provide more services and assistance to PWDs.

The ordinance also aims to assign a PWD representative in the Local Development Council and other special bodies.

Once approved, funds will be allocated under the budget of the city mayors office.

Women stabbed, dumped in San Nicolas ravine  
SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte — A woman who was last known to leave the house of her relatives in nearby Laoag City to attend a religious gathering at the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) chapel, here, turned up dead in a ravine in Barangay 16 Payas, this town, June 7.

Homicide investigators are now probing who could have killed Eva Sabal, a native of Tuguegarao City, whose body bore multiple stab wounds.

LPG tank blast hurts 4
CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur — Four people were injured when a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refiller-tank exploded while being lifted by a crane inside an industrial compound in Barangay Paing, Bantay town, this province, June 8.

Police identified the victims as Renato Paet, 43, the crane operator; Moises Gadut, 27; and Raden Alporo, 38, gas refiller; and one Cesar Espiritu, 48. The incident happened at the RKT Marketing owned by Richard Tan. -- Freddie G. Lazaro

Woman yields P1-M ‘shabu’ in Isabela
ECHAGUE, Isabela -- Police nabbed a female courier of a big-time drug syndicate who yielded P1 million worth of metamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” in an entrapment at the university belt here June 17.

Chief Insp. MelchorAriola, Echague, city police chief, said his men seized from Lourdes Paragod, 33, of Barangay
San Andres, Santiago City, Isabela, a total of 35 heat-sealed sachets of shabu with a total estimated weight of 175 grams.

5 nabbed for illegal drugs in Ilocos Sur
MAGSINGAL, Ilocos Sur -- Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and police raided a drug den here last week which resulted in the arrest of a couple.

PDEA chief Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. identified the alleged illegal drug pushers as LauriceYamon, 36 and his live-in partner, Jacqueline Rabaca, 23, of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur.

The June 3 bust also led to the arrest of their suspected customers Herardo  Sonido, 45, a businessman from Cabugao, Ilocos Sur; Cesar Asqueta, 51, of Magsingal; Raymund Pacleb, 20, also a local resident.

The raid which resulted in the confiscation of three bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves weighing approximately 11.75 kilograms and 28 sachets of a white crystalline substance suspected to be “shabu” was covered by a search warrant issued by Judge Marita B. Balloguing of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 20 in Vigan City. -- Francis T. Wakefield
