BAGUIO CITY
— The Commission on Elections has launched off-site biometric
registration of voters every Sunday to validate all voters in the city and
allow them to cast their votes in 2016.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan was the first who
validated his registration through the off-site registration at City Hall last
Monday.
“There were many who availed of the
biometrics off-site validation, and with the number we obtained, we consider it
successful and effective to do every week in all the barangays in the city,”
said Baguio City Election Officer John Paul Martin.
The first satellite registration will be for
residents of Barangay Aurora Hill in District 19. It will be held on Sunday at
the Immaculate Concepcion Parish.
They expect to finish registration of
residents of all 128 barangays by November.
Baguio’s 149,000 registered voters increased
to 150,000 because of the new voters. But about 29,000 of them will lose the
chance to vote in May 2016 if they do not comply with the biometrics
registration.
