TINEG, Abra — The much-awaited
electrification of a remote village in this town, known for violent elections
and presence of communist rebels has
been realized.
This,
through the barangay electrification program of the Abra Electric Cooperative
with the support of the national government.
Abreco
recently lit up sitio Vira, in barangay Alaoa, the gateway to the once-forgotten
Tineg town.
Part of the
sitio electrification program, last week’s “light-up” was an upgraded barangay
electrification project, said Abreco general manager Loreto Seares Jr.
Tineg is a
remote town that could only be reached from Bangued, Abra’s capital town,
through a a 65-kilometer, bumpy four-hour ride.
Perhaps the
most popular anecdotes about Tinegwas its perennially highly-contested local
politics.
Oftentimes,
local elections have been violent as Tineg is a typically poor town
though mineral-rich.
Its roads
are unpaved and even its main artery to the province’s capital is deplorable.
“But sooner
or later, this will be overcome,” said Seares Jr. who, Mayor
Corinthia Dannang-Crisologo, Abra lawmaker Jocelyn Bernos and Governor
EustaquioBersamin, first switched on Tineg’s electricity Thursday last week.
With the
inroads of electricity into Tineg, added Seares Jr., economic activities would
propel its local economy. – Freddie Lazaro
