BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan here has endorsed the resolution of the barangay officials of Barangay Maligcong of this municipality requesting declaration of the Maligcong Rice Terraces as national cultural heritage.
The SP noted despite remoteness of Maligcong, it is still a favorite destination of both local and foreign tourists due to its stone-walled rice terraces which make it unique and distinct from other terraces in other places.
The Maligcong Rice terraces,  built several centuries ago, was cited as among structures in Mountain Province that embody and exemplify the richness and abundance of the culture and history of the province and its people.
These terraces are proof of ingenuity, indigenous engineering skills, workmanship and industriousness of the villagers, the SP said.
A copy of the resolution was forwarded to the National Commission for Culture and Arts through its chairman, Felipe M. De Leon, Jr.
