 Mayor fires traffic auxiliary over bribes
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Mayor Edna Tabanda dismissed a traffic auxiliary here after receiving complaints against him in her office. “This is to serve as a lesson to the traffic auxiliary members to observe their maximum tolerance when doing their duty for traffic and so that they will not repeat what he did,” Tabanda said.
Tabanda said she had been receiving complaints that allegedly, this traffic auxiliary member, whom she did not name, has been asking bribes from motorists and did not know what he was doing.
A concerned citizen also posted of this traffic auxiliary member on Facebook wherein he allegedly ticketed motorists even without clear violation and always seemed to be in a bad mood and often pointed his finger at motorists. -- Khyrl Leizel Tanacio

Abra mayor loses P10 million to fire
BANGUED, Abra – The house of the mayor of Manabo, Abra was destroyed in a fire at midnight on Wednesday. 
Damage was estimated at P10 million, said Senior Supt. Antonio Bartolome, Abra police director.
An investigation is ongoing.      

Village exec nabbed for hitting watchman
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A village councilman landed in jail after he reportedly punched a watchman in Paniqui, Tarlac on Jan. 31.
Before the incident, Genaro Chanchinco, 45, of Barangay Sta. Ines stopped a volleyball tournament participated in by homosexuals.
Chanchinco was reportedly armed with a knife when he stopped the game.
The suspect went to the nearby village hall and punched Federico Cabuslay without provocation.
Three police officers responded to Cabuslay’s complaint and arrested Chanchinco, who resisted them.
Cabuslay said Chanchinco was under the influence of liquor and had figured in other violent incidents in the village.
Case investigator Police Officer 3 Julito Reyno said Chanchinco is the subject of an arrest warrant for grave threats issued several years ago. -- Ding Cervantes

 Baguio nurse falls victim to online scam
BAGUIO CITY -- A company nurse lost P5, 260 after being scammed in an online transaction last Feb. 23 here. One Evita Joy Ferrer, 29, of Baguio General Hopspital compound reportedly settransaction with suspect Shiela May Bugayong of Manila for an oxygen tank with regulator worth P4, 800.
According to the victim, she saw the advertisement in an online buy-and-sell site known as OLX.com. She then contacted the seller and immediately ordered the oxygen tank since it was way cheaper than the suggested retail price of the product.
The suspect promised to deliver the product through Victory Liner as soon as she received the money. But when the victim deposited P5,260 including the delivery charge to the suspect`s bank account, the suspect was nowhere to be contacted. Tarlac housemaid caught selling shabu
TARLAC CITY -- A housemaid here was arrested after she was caught red-handed selling shabu.
Maritess Manibo Torres was apprehended when she sold more than 2 grams of shabu to a police poseur buyer in Zone 1, Barangay Maliwalo, here.
According to PSupt Bayani Razalan the buy-bust operation against Torres was launched based from an informant’s SMS report of her selling shabu in their neighborhood.
“Torres is relatively new in the neighborhood and we believe her supplier of shabu is not from Tarlac. Only ‘new settlers’ will dare sell drugs in a peaceful community very near a police community precinct”, said Razalan.  
Torres is from Barangay Camantiles, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, and was employed house maid by Ruben Flores barely 5 months ago at an apartment near PCP 3.
Police also said Torres is possibly connected to a big time drug group since “she deals by-the-grams (of shabu) and not by-the-retail P500/sachet which are less than 0.03 gram per piece”.
The confiscated shabu from Torres were packed in 2 sachets of almost one gram each.     
“Two lessons learned from this incident: First, know them well and be very observant of your housemaids, and second, it pays to immediately report to police any hint of illegal activity in your neighborhood.  The arrest of Torres was accomplished out of the report of our unknown informant”, said Razalan. --  Nelson Bolos

Young men in pot session arrested
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Cops arrested two men in possession of dried marijuana leaves with undetermined quantity here Monday around 10:40 a.m. at Governor’s Park, Upper Wangal. Arrested were Rizand Rodillas Roque, 21, of Amanda Street, Naguilian Rd., Baguio City, and Narghel Astodillo Deoferio, 19, student, resident here of Motorpool, Wangal. Confiscated from Roque was a red checkered bag containing one bundle of dried marijuana leaves wrapped in blue plastic, one orange weighing scale (rosewood), two cigarette butts with undetermined quantity and value, while confiscated from Deoferio was a yellow lighter and cigarette butt containing undermined substance.
Chief of police Chief Insp. Radino Belly earlier received phone call that two men  were smoking marijuana  in the area. Upon arrival, one Bernard Wayas approached them and led them to the suspects’ location. The suspects threw away their cigarettes upon noticing cops but they were arrested and said items were confiscated. 

Maid selling shabu via text messages falls
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A household helper who reportedly sells illegal drugs through text messages was arrested in Tarlac City Tuesday.
Maritess Torres was arrested after she sold more than two grams of shabu to a police undercover agent at her employer’s apartment in Barangay Maliwalo.
“Torres is new in the neighborhood and we believe her drug supplier is not from Tarlac,” city police chief Superintendent Bayani Razalan said.  
Police said Torres is a native of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan and has been working as a housemaid for Ruben Flores for five months.
The Flores residence is only a few meters away from the city police station.
Razalan said an informant tipped them off about Torres’ activity.—Ding Cervantes   
                 
Miner nabbed for physical injuries 
MANKAYAN, Benguet –  A certain Anthony Mocnangan Waclin, 29, small scale miner, was arrested here Feb. 29 at his residence at Mangga, Taneg here for physical injuries.
Jonathan Chavez Segundo, presiding judge of municipal trial court, Mankayan, who issued his arrest warrant, recommended bail ot P2,000 for his temnporary liberty.

Man jailed for taking gadgets worth P9,000
BAGUIO CITY – A suspected thief was jailed after he allegedly took a backpack of a porter which had around P9,000 worth of gadgets in it Monday. Police said the incident happened around 3:35 p.m. at the residcence of a certain Jay P. Francisco  at Upper P. Burgos.
Investigation disclosed that the Francisco and his friend were on their way home when they saw the suspect identified as Jimmy Dango Bandao, 23, of Purok 27, Barangay Irisan at the stairs and saw his backpack being carried by the suspect. Francisco and his friend immediately held the suspect and checked the content of the said bag which had a Samsung computer monitor with Evolve keyboard worth P3,400, 10Nik 0610 backpack worth P4,000 and Rock Slide sunglass worth P1,500. The suspect was brought to police station. .

Benguet bizwoman arrested in Ifugao over bouncing checks
HUNDUAN, Ifugao – Police arrested Monday a certain Estrella Gaddang Balatong, 47, businesswoman, resident of Km 6, Asin Road, Tuba, Benguet here  Sitio Banit, Payawan, Lamut for bouncing checks.
Rixon M. Garong, presiding judge, MTC of San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija issued warrant for her arrest for violation of Batas Pampansa 22 and recommended bail of P2,000 for her temporary liberty.

P58K ukay goods looted by robbers
BAGUIO CITY --An ukay-ukay stall was robbed by unidentified robbers in Bayanihan Building, Chanum Street, here last week.
Stall 14 owner Jackie Lou Medina Gaspar, 29, of Bakakeng Central lost P56, 600 worth of second hand dry goods after the suspects broke two padlocks of her stalls accordion door. Taken from the said stall were eight large branded backpacks worth P9, 600; 15 pairs of original shoes worth P30, 000; 15 pieces of ball caps worth P3, 000; 3 pieces of Prada bags worth P8, 000; and 2 Lacoste jackets worth P6, 000.
According to the victim, she secured the accordion door with two padlocks at around 8 p.m. of Feb. At around 9 a.m. the next day, she noticed that the door was slightly open and the room in disarray. There were three night guards securing the building. Police are still investigating the retrieved CCTV footage owned by a nearby stall. -- Ian Pajarillaga

 Vegetable dealer nabbed for robbery
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Cops of nearby Tublay town arrested here Monday a vegetable dealer wanted for robbery at a billiard den at Vegetable Trading Post.
Police identified the suspect as Jasper Bacawat Tomey also known as Brain Bugas Batneg, 33, native of Emoyao, Lesseb, Bauko, Mountain Province, and residing at Cruz, La Trinidad, Benguet, 
Grace Gliceria F. De Vera, Presiding Judge, MTCC, First Judicial Region, San Carlos, Pangasinan who issued his arrest warrant recommended bail of P2,000 for his temporary liberty.

‘Bangus’ nabbed for robbery
BAUKO, Mountain Province – Cops nabbed here Monday a certain Ariel “Bangus” Agasen Sicdadoy, 22, farmer at his residence here at Barangay Tapapan for robbery.  Sergio T. Angganay Jr. presiding judge, First Judicial Region, RTC Branch 36, Bontoc, Mountain Province issued warrant for his arrest and recommended bail of P150, 000 for his temporary liberty.

Trike driver hurt in Kapangan accident
KAPANGAN, Benguet – Cops received a text message Monday from a concerned citizen that a vehicular accident transpired along Kapangan-Kibungan road here at Sitio Lomon, Paykekt. The involved vehicles were a red Isuzu forward truck driven by Henaro Canuto Hilario, 53, of Poblacion, Kibungan town and a  motorcycle without plate number driven by Jestoni Sitem Copalao, 25, of Belis, Pudong, Kapangan.
Investigation disclosed at about 9 a.m. that day, the truck was descending toward Baguio City when the motorcycle ascending toward Lomon, Kapangan, encroached on its lane that resulted to collision.  The motorcycle driver was injured and was brought to Kapangan Medicare Community Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Benguet General Hospital. The motorcycle was damaged.

 Man jailed for hitting teacher’s head, trying to stab companion
BAGUIO CITY – A 54-year-old man was jailed for hitting the head of a teacher and for attempting to stab her and her male companion Monday around 8:30 p.m. in front of Assumption Medical Diagnostic Center (AMDC) along Assumption Road here.
 The victims were identified as Abigail Ambros Dinamling, 22, ESL teacher John Michael Barnachea Ternola, 22, bartender. The supect was named as Ezequil Celso Celino, 54, unemployed here of Sim-sim Road, Pacdal.
Investigation disclosed the victims were walking when the suspect suddenly  beat the head of  Dinamling making Ternola confrontthe suspect who brought out a kitchen knife and tried to stab the victims prompting them to run toward Session Road  hwere they sought police assistance. Cops of Police Station 7 arrested the suspect at the intersection of Gen Luna Road and Assumption Road, and confiscated a knife measuring about 13 inches long from his possession.

Man nabbed forphysical injuries
SABANGAN, Mountain Province – A certain Noel Kulpo Kidit, 30, was arrested in Barangay Data here Tuesday by town cops and elements of Regional Intelligence Unit-14, Regional Public Safety Battalion, Regional Intelligence Division-Cordillera, Provincial Public Safety Company of Mountain Province Provincial Police Officefor serious physical injuries. Nail for his termporary liberty was set by the court at P10, 000.

Farmer wanted for rape arrested 
BUGUIAS, Benguet – A man wanted for rape was nabbed here Monday around 5 p.m.  at Banoo-oy Baculongan Norte. Police identified the suspect as Oliver Baucas Cayat, 28, farmer, resident of Daclan, Pacso, Kabayan town. Cayat was charged for two counts of rape and no bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

BAUKO, Mountain Province – For alleged robbery, a farmer identified as Ariel Agasen Sicdadoy, 22, of Tapapan here was arrested at Barangay Tapapan Monday by joint personnel of Mt. Province Provincial Police Office, Regional Intelligence Unit 14, and Regional Intelligence Division-Cordillera. A local court set bail for Sicdadoy’s temporary liberty at P150, 000.00.

Robbery lands man in jail 
PARACELIS, Mountain Province – A certain Daniel Kanag Addiyat, 43, was arrested in his residence here at Sitio Carupaan, Anonat Tuesday for robbery. Bail for his rtemporary liberty was set at P12, 000 by a local court. 

Grave coercion lands three men in jail
ITOGON, Benguet – Three men were arrested at Barangay Virac here Tuesday for grave coercion. They were identified as   Rodolfo Pingi Antolino, 60, laborer resident here of Skyview, Virac; Gilliardo Shagman Pingi, 51, driver, of Jahpa, Virac, and Tyson Castillo Apilado, 26, miner, of Riverside, Virac. Bail was set by a local court for their temporary liberty at P12, 000 each. They were also charged for violation of Republic Act 7942 (Mining Act) with a recommended bail bond of P12, 000 each.

Tricycle driver nabbed for violence against women, children              
BANGUED, Abra -- Marlon Gonzales Castillo, 32, tricycle driver was arrested in his residence here Tuesday at Zone 3 for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Violence against women and children) with recommended bail bond of P24,000.

Man lands in jail for robbery with homicide
LAMUT, Ifugao – A certain Warlito R. Pacarien, 44, was arrested here in Barangay Payawan Tuesday for robbery with homicide. No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.

Police patrols upped in Abatan to lessen crime
BUGUIAS, Benguet – Town police head Chief Insp. Botangen said most crimes here are being committed in Barangay Abatan that is why they increased patrols to maintain the peace and order.
“During the year 2014 and 2015, we have observed that the most prevalent crimes here in Abatan is physical injury, theft and motor carnapping but through our patrols and police visibility, we were able to lessen it and since January, we have not yet recorded any cases of motor car napping and there are also weeks that we have zero crime rates.”
He added through Oplan One Time Big Time, they arrested a suspect in Upper Abatan and confiscated shabu from him.
They have also reportedly conducted lectures and seminars for students of Bangao Elementary School and Bangao National High School tackling about drugs. He added they will have lectures in different schools in the municipality  on the drug menace.
