KABAYAN, Benguet -- Mt. Pulag here, the second highest peak in the country would be declared heritage site  under an ordinance set for approval by the provincial board.
The measure, was authored by board members Blas Dalus and Robert Namoro, and approved on second reading.
It seeks to identify, preserve and protect all heritage sites in the province.
“There are heritage sites in the province of Benguet which are yet to be identified and validated by the provincial tourism office,” the proposed ordinance stated.
Mt. Pulag, which straddles the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya, is the second highest mountain in the country. It is a favorite trekking destination because of the breathtaking view of the sunrise amid a sea of clouds at its peak.
Also being considered as heritage sites are the Apo Anno Cave, where the mummy of the legendary Apo Anno was interred; Mt. Ugo, a favorite hiking destination; Domolpos, another mummy cave, and the Aran Cave.

Namoro said local officials and concerned agencies are identifying more heritage sites in the province.
