BAGUIO
CITY - Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed all barangay officials
here to monitor and clear barangay roads from any obstruction that affect
smooth flow of traffic.
This, after fire burned houses within
Department of Public Works and Highways compound at the Engineer’s Hill last
May 28 wherein firetrucks had a hard time getting to the site due to vehicles
parked along the road.
Domogan
urged officials to strictly implement ordinance no. 7, series of 1984 known as
“Ordinance Adopting a Comprehensive Transportation and Traffic Regulations in
the city provides for the towing of vehicles parked in undesignated parking
areas.”
Although the Land Transportation Office
requires parking spaces prior to the registration of motor vehicles to public
utility vehicles only, the mayor believes that is it high time for the city
council to pass amendments to the existing traffic and transportation code by
also requiring private vehicle owners proof of parking spaces before the
registration of their vehicles.
On the other hand, he urged barangay
officials to look for vacant lots in their respective barangays and identify
the same as barangay needs to be utilized as parking space for their
constituents.
“The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)
lacks manpower to apprehend illegal parked vehicles on roads that hamper the
flow of traffic, thus, I need your (barangay officials) active involvement in
our campaign to clear city as well as barangay roads from any obstructions to
avoid untoward incidents in the near future,” stressed Domogan.
“As
barangay officials, it is your responsibility to talk and to remind your
constituents with vehicles not to park at the roadside considering that this is
one of the causes of traffic congestions as well as accidents,” he added.
Moreover, the mayor also encouraged barangay
residents to monitor willful private vehicle owners and report them to their
barangay officials for appropriate action
