Severed hand found in trash can

BAGUIO CITY – A garbage collector found a severed hand in a trashcan at a bus terminal in here Wednesday. 
Eduard Mandaraog, 22, turned over the hand, which was found in a box and wrapped with a plastic bag, to the police.
An investigation is underway.

 Tagudin village chief shot dead

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – The chairman of Barangay Salvacion in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur was gunned down at around 7 p.m. on Monday.
Baltazar Lodia Sr. died on the way to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital.
A manhunt for the suspect identified as Rufino Gonzaga is underway. Probers are eyeing a grudge as the motive for the killing. – Jun Elias

2 drug personalities arrested in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera and local police arrested Tuesday two drug personalities here in separate sting operations.
First to fall was Edgardo Divina Covacha, 52, alleged member of a local drug group and resident of Barangay Irisan. 
He was arrested along Leonard Wood Road, Baguio City for selling three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu to an anti-narcotics agent.
Covacha yielded the P3,000 buy-bust money and a mobile phone upon his arrest.
Next to be collared a few hours after was Christian Louie Refugio Lapitan, alias Louie, 26, member of another local drug group and  resident of Upper Fairview.
Lapitan was nabbed late last night at Campo Filipino for selling shabu weighing five grams to an undercover agent.
The buy-bust team recovered from Lapitan the P15,000 money used during the operation.
They are now detained at the Baguio City Jail and will be facing cases for violation of Republic Act Number 9165, otherwise known as the "Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002".

Woman kills sleeping husband with steel pipe

 POZORRUBIO, Pangasinan – A woman allegedly beat her husband to death using a steel pipe while he was sleeping in Barangay Palacpalac in this town on July 2. 
Driver Ariel Neri, 38, was declared dead on arrival at the Pozorrubio Community Hospital. 
His wife Vicky, 41, was arrested after their 17-year-old daughter reported the incident to the police. The suspect reportedly tried to cover up the crime by cleaning the house and telling police that the victim slipped and hit his head.
The suspect was reportedly fed up that her husband beat her up whenever he was drunk. – Eva Visperas  

 Farmer nabbed for illegal gun

PINUKPUK, Kalinga -- Police arrested Monday Raymond Liwagan Dangiwan, 25, farmer and a resident of Asibanglan, Pinukpuk, and Calanan, Tabuk City for illegal possession of a 9mm caliber Daewoo pistol with magazine loaded with 13 bullets.

Teacher killed in Solano shootout

SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya -- ”High-value” drug pusher Rogelio Andres, a high school teacher, was killed when he allegedly shot it out with anti-drug operatives in Purok 5, Barangay Curifang on July 2.

 2 gun curators arrested in Abra

LABAGAN, Abra -- Two gun curators who were subjects of surveillance by law enforcers for possession of various firearms were arrested Monday following the service of search warrants at their residence here in Barangay Pang-ot.
Confiscatedc from the suspects were a shotgun, M16 rifle; 224 bullets, nine magazines for M16; 11grenade ammunition for M203; Cal. 45 pistol with two magazines and bullets including two bandoliers.

Cops probe death of farm caretaker

DELFIN, Albano, Isabela -- Police are still investigating if the killing of farm caretaker Arthur Valdez, 43, here in Barangay Villa Tereda on July 2 was drug-related.
Valdez was sleeping at a hut in the middle of a rice field in Barangay Villa Pereda when an unidentified man entered and shot him. His companion Melchor Acob, 38, was unhurt.
A motorcycle with a sling bag containing a .38-caliber revolver was found abandoned near the scene.

Man dies in Manaoag motorcycle collision

MANAOAG, Pangasinan -- Narciso Nano, 69, died in a collision involving two motorcycles in Manaoag town on July 1
Nano reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle when he hit a motorcycle driven by Glenn Magno, 32, in Barangay Calaocan.
Magno was taken to a hospital for treatment.
On the same day, Marlo Benitez, 34, died when his motorcycle hit an unidentified vehicle in Barangay Baritao. Benitez’s companion, Jeffrey Soriano, 25, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the vehicle sped away after the collision.

Drug suspect slain in Tarlac shootout

TARLAC CITY – A drug suspect named as Omar Ugadan was killed in an alleged shootout in Barangay Tibag here July 1. Probers said Ugadan surrendered to authorities during the conduct of Oplan Tokhang in their village last year.
The suspect reportedly tried to escape and traded shots with police officers.
Meanwhile, police arrested Jayson Lansang, 37 and his alleged cohort Chiaro Crisanto Catu, 26, during a sting in Gerona town.
On the same day, police arrested Santy Samson, 30, after he allegedly sold an undetermined amount of shabu to undercover agents in Barangay San Antonio, Tarlac City. – Ding Cervantes

Unidentified persons steal Tamaraw FX 

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Still unidentified men stole a Tamaraw FX vehicle bearing plate number TRA 632 parked along a road here in Barangay Buyagan Monday night. The owner was identified as Avelino Tipayno Puy-as, 55 of Sayangan, Paoay, Atok, Benguet and resident of AC 116, Buyagan, Poblacion.
Puy-as told police he parked the vehicle a week ago near their residence. He learned that his vehicle was missing when he was about to bring his wife to the hospital. The vehicle was still registered under the name of Petra P. Paris of Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya. 

Worker stabs co-worker in BeGH restaurant

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A helper of the Bulaluhan Restaurant restaurant within the Benguet General Hospital here is now in critical condition at the BeGH after he was stabbed by a co-worker Wednesday around 1 a.m. A police report said the incident identified the victim as
John Mark Qeuñones Castilleon, 19, of Caba, La Union. He was reportedly stabbed by Jhun Angelo Bedal Amores, 19, of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Both are stay-in workers of the restaurant.
Investigation revealed the victim and the suspect with two co-workers arrived at their work place under the influence of liquor. Castilleon and his girlfriend quarreled so one of their co-workers tried to pacify them. Castilleon got angry and tried to stab the one pacifying them. Castilleon swinging the knife accidentally hit the head of Amores causing him to fall on the ground. Amores grabbed the knife and stabbed the neck of Castilleon.
Castilleon was brought to the BeGH by one of their companions while Amores surrendered to the responding cops. The knife was recovered at the place of incident.

Teacher nabbed for rape in Tuba

TUBA, Benguet – Cops arrested a teacher here Monday for rape. The suspect was named as Virgilio Segundo Estolas, 55, resident of Barangay Tadiangan. His victim was reportedly a minor. Case was filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. 

 Laborer arrested for murder in Mayoyao

MAYOYAO, Ifugao – A laborer  wanted for murder surrendered to police here Tuesday. Suspect was identified  as Bernard Poychana, 38 of Sitio Mucgwawon, Barangay Mapawoy. 
Judge Hon. Ester L. Piscoso-Flor of RTC, Branch 34, Banaue, Ifugao issued warrant for his arrest.

 Driver nabbed for rape in Tabuk

TABUK CITY – A man wanted for rape was arrested here Tuesday at Purok 6, Bulanao. The suspect was named as Joel “Rudy” Sindanumitagan, driver, resident of New Tanglag, Tabuk. 
Bail of P200,000 was set by Judge Neljoe A. Cortes of RTC, 2nd Judicial Region, Branch 25, Bulanao for his temporary liberty.  

 Farmer nabbed for rape in Kalinga

TABUK CITY – Cops arrested a certain Roy Guimba, 39, farmer resident of Barangay Nambaran for rape.
Guimba was nabbed Tuesday at Sitio Callagdao, Bulanao of this city. 
This, after warrant was issued against him by Judge Marcelino K. Wacas, RTC, 2nd judicial Region, Branch 25 Bulanao, Tabuk City.

4 drug dealers nabbed in Baguio, Benguet

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad Benguet-– Four illegal drug suspects were recently arrested in Baguio City and Benguet.
Cordillera police director Chief Supt. Elmo Francis Sarona said three suspects were successively arrested by combined operatives of PROCOR and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet on June 27.
Suspects Edwin Salvador Ganado, 39 and Rommel Paculanan Olog, 38, were arrested at their residence in Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet after they sold a sachet of illegal drugs to a poseur buyer.
Seized from their possession were two heat sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected “shabu”, P2,900 cash and the buy-bust money, drug paraphernalia and two cell phones.
A third suspect, Reynan Tan Chavez, 27, resident of Bayabas, Pico, La Trinidad, was arrested in a follow-up operation in the same place when he was about to deliver illegal drugs to Ganado who was already arrested. Seized from him were three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected “shabu”, Php1,000 cash money and a cellular phone.
Earlier, on June 25, Jessiemel Butad Montemayor also known as “Ashley”, 24, resident at Block 3 East Quirino Hill, Baguio City was nabbed on the road in East Quirino Hill.
Sarona said the suspect sold a sachet of illegal drugs to a law enforcer who posed as a buyer. Seized from the fourth suspect was a sachet containing suspected “shabu” and the P500 buy bust money.

Motorcycle thief shot dead in Dagupan

DAGUPAN CITY – A motorcycle thief was killed in an alleged firefight with pursuing police officers in Barangay Pogo Grande in this city on July 1. The suspect, who has yet to be identified, reportedly tried to avoid a checkpoint, prompting police officers to pursue him.
The officers caught up with the suspect on Claveria Road in Sitio Looban.
Instead of giving himself in, the suspect reportedly shot at the  officers, triggering a firefight. He was declared dead on arrival at the Region 1 Medical Center.
Police recovered from the suspect a stolen motorcycle and a bag containing a wallet, two screwdrivers, keys, a pistol and a plastic sachet said to contain shabu. – Eva Visperas

 DAR worker denied bail for rebellion

MALIBCONG, Abra – A contractual worker of the Dept. of Agrarian Reform was arrested for rebellion here Monday. Arrested was Arnel “Layab” Gupaal Balucas, 41, former New People’s Army rebel and resident here of  Barangay Bangilo. Corpus B. Alzate, presiding judge, RTC Branch 2, Bangued Abra issued his arrest warrant with no bail recommended. Balucas is now under custody of Bangued police.

Young man nabbed for frustrated homicide

BAGUIO CITY – Cops arrested a certain Christian Abenoja Garbo, 18 here at Purok 5, Lower Quirino Hill for frustrated homicide. This, after Ivan Kim B. Morales, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court, Branch 59, Baguio City issued warrant for his arrest setting bail of P120,000 for his temporary liberty.

  Atok house razed to the ground

ATOK, Benguet – A 2-storey house was razed to the ground here July 2 around 10 p.m. at Sitio Bilis, Barangay Caliking. Police said the house make of wood and GI sheets was owned by couple John Cris and Racela Mae Odados Itman. 
According to father of Racela Mae identified as Ceasar Odados, 44, farmer, and a resident of same place, he cooked food around 12 noon using wood was fuel in the wood in the dirty kitchen. He later suppressed the fire by sprinkling water and left the house.
Investigation of FO1 Michael John U. Alangsab of Bureau of Fire Protection, fire started at the dirty kitchen. The house was already burned down upon arrival of Atok police and fire personnel. Estimated damage cost was P500,000. No person was injured during the incident.

Missing impounded dump truck found

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police found an Isuzu 10-wheeler dump truck here Tuesday at Barangay Shilan reported earlier as missing. The truck with plate number RHU 939 was earlier apprehended and impounded by Buguias town police at a checkpoint on June 29 since it was loaded with mine ore. A case for violation of Republic Act 7942 was filed against the driver and the helper. The vehicle was turned over to Buguias Environment office. The vehicle was reported missing to to Buguias police by environmental management specialist 1 Benny Pisnek o Monday.
Investigation disclosed Buguias CENRO personnel parked the truck in Bekes, Buyacaoan, Buguias, Benguet allegedly unguarded until it was discovered missing. The recovered truck was delivered at  the DENR impounding area at along km 21, Atok town received by  Oliver Billango, CENRO personnel.

 Farmer arrested for gun in Abra

LA PAZ, Abra -- Sandy Balmaceda Tan, 42, farmer, resident of Barangay Bulbulala, La Paz, Abra was arrested after policemen responded to a call that the said person was holding a Gauge 12 Armscor shotgun while on a drinking session.
 Suspect was charged for illegally possessing firearm without the pertinent papers.

Truck hits, hurts 2 men along Marcos Highway 

TUBA, Benguet – A truck heavily loaded with vegetables bound to Manila hit another truck after it tried to evade a SUV which tried to overtake another truck resulting to wounding of two men.    
A police report said the incident happened Monday around 12:30 p.m. along Marcos Highway in Barangay Bontiway involving a 10-wheeler truck driven by Roldan Mariano Lee, 35.
 Investigation disclosed the truck was descending towards the lowlands when Lee evaded a SUV overtaking two trucks ascending towards Baguio. Lee stepped on the brake but the truck, due to slippery road, sideswept a parked Isuzu Elf  and two employees of RFJ Construction and Trading who were standing beside it identified as Teddy Villanueva and Julius Estorco. 

The truck then hit a huge rock making it fall side up. Villanueva and Mr. Estorco were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital for treatment.
