Gunmen attack Isabela town official’s  house

SANTA MARIA, Isabela—- Six heavily-armed men on Tuesday night shot the house of this town’s municipal planning and development officer, while the vice mayor was visiting, police said.
Police said the armed men broke into the compound of Concepcion Toda just as Vice Mayor Danilo Masigan and a companion, Gerald Cabauatan, were preparing to leave, and opened fire, shattering windows and damaging Masigan’s vehicle.
Masigan, Cabatuan and members of the Toda family meanwhile took cover inside the house and emerged only after the armed men left.
Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.  


Sagada man commits suicide in farm  

TUBA, Benguet – A caretaker of a piggery farm here, a native of Suyo, Sagada, Mountain Province allegedly committed suicide here Wednesday at Camp 2.
The victim was identified as Rey Julom David, 34, single and resident of No. 149 Puliwes, Baguio City. He was found dead at the farm of Richard Duran Milo along Kennon Road.
Jeffrey Menzi, 44, loader operator, told police around 8 a.m. that day, while he was about to proceed to his work place when he noticed the victim was hanging in front of his shanty with a nylon rope tied on his neck.
Menzi said he immediately contacted the chief tanod of Camp 3 Jerry Bengwasan regarding the incident. Around 11 a.m. scene of the crime operatives headed by Dr. Hector Sorra, regional police medico legal officer, arrived but family members of the deceased represented by his brother Edwin Julom David, refused the cadaver to be autopsied. They signed a waiver of non-interest and manifested that they were convinced that there was no foul play in the death of their kin.

  Laborer jumps off Tabuk bridge; killed

TABUK CITY –A laborer was found dead along the Chico River here Wednesday around 1 p.m. around 200 meters from Canao (Pasunglao) Bridge, in what his family believed was suicide.
A report by PO3 Canao identified the body as that of  Bakwing T. Bayangan, 50, married, here of Purok 5, Barangay Bulanao.
Investigation disclosed that Tuesday morning,  the victim told his wife that he will go to the hospital for check-up but since then his husband never returned home, prompted their relatives to look for him.
On Wednesday morning, they were informed that a male person was seen by eyewitness around 2 p.m. Tuesday that he jump from the Canao bridge to the river as evidenced by pair of slippers left at the side of the bridge.
The victim’s family confirmed the slippers belonged to the victim. The family of the victim said they were convinced the victim committed suicide considering he was sick for a long time and that the victim always told them that if he will die, they will just throw him at the Canao bridge.

 Farmer injured after trying to overtake FX

MANKAYAN, Benguet – A farmer was rendered unconscious and severely injured when he tried to overtake a Tamaraw FX but he lost control of the vehicle making it hit a boulder beside a road here.
Police said the incident happened Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. along Colalo Road.
The victim was identified as Jonathan Ambros Galande, 26, single, of Busan, Colalo. He was rushed by his companions who were aboard the Tamaraw FX bearing plate No. UEW 898 to the infirmary clinic at  Poblacion.
Investigation disclosed around 6:30 p.m. that day, the victim without wearing helmet while driving the motorcycle without plate number overtook the Tamaraw FX resulting to the accident.
The victim who had head injuries was later referred to Lutheran Hospital, Abatan, Buguias town for further treatment.

Man dies after being hit by post, galvanized iron

PUDTOL, Apayao – An unemployed man tied the cord of his hammock at the post of stocked pile of galvanized iron, laid down, but the post suddenly collapsed and he was hit by  galvanized iron including the post resulting to his death.
The victim was identified as Mark Bryan Agpuldo Calasag, 27 single, college graduate, here of Sitio Pisong, Swan.
A police report said the transpired around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sitio Pisong in a hardware owned by Larry Mar Denus. The victim was brought to Amma Jadsac District Hospital located at Poblacion but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Based on the initial findings, the victim suffered laceration on his head, abrasions on his right foot, contusion hematoma on his right eye and traumatic brain injury that caused his death.

 Laborer nabbed for murder

MAYOYAO, Ifugao – Police from Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya and of this town arrested a laborer here Monday for murder. The suspect was identified as Lito Udjam Guimpat, 34, of Sitio Inhab, Barangay Mongol of this tourist town.
This, after Judge Paul R. Attolba Jr., of RTC, Branch 30, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, issued warrant against him without bail. The accused was brought to municipal health office for medical examination and later incarcerated at the local jail.

Man arrested in Bontoc for slay       

BONTOC, Mountain Province --    A certain Junior Licob Killa was arrested here at Barangay Bogbogan Monday for murder. The accused was earlier ordered arrested by the RTC 2nd Judicial Region, Branch 25, Bulanao, Tabuk, Kalinga for the crime. 

 Navy man nabbed for lasciviousness

BAGUIO CITY – A Philippine Navy personnel was arrested here Monday for acts of lasciviousness. The suspect identified as Allen John Saong Gayo, 22, of AD 105 F Upper Central Buyagan La Trinidad Benguet was nabbed along Marcos Highway on complaint of Hazel Joie Abad Manalanzan, 19.
Investigation disclosed the complainant was on board a Victory Liner Bus bound to Baguio City when she awoke when she felt somebody inserted his hand in her shirt and hold her left breast. When Manalanzan opened her eyes, Gayo tried to walk away and go out from the bus which prompted her to grab is jacket and call attention of the bus conductor to seek help.

Laborer nabbed for repeatedly raping girl   

PINUKPUK, Kalinga – A 52-year-old laborer was nabbed here Monday for reportedly forcing a girl to have sex with him repeatedly since she was nine years old.
A police report said Cesaria Ranjo Bartolome, 63 and Charity Daligdalig Mangwag, 50, both farmers went to the police station with the 11-year-old victim, all residents of Barangay Katabbogan to file complaint against Jerry Datul Andres, 52.
Investigation disclosed around 8 p.m. of Oct. 14, the victim was on her way going to the house of her sister but when she passed the house of the suspect, she was shocked when the suspect suddenly grabbed her hand, hugged her and forced her to enter his house.
She resisted and escaped then went to the house of her sister.  Mangwag told police in the morning of Oct. 14, the victim revealed to her that she was forced by the suspect to have sexual intercourse several times since she was nine years old and the latest incident was on Oct. 6. 
Police immediately arrested Andres.

Photog ‘raped’ during wedding  

TUBA, Benguet – A case for rape was filed against a 34-year-old man here by a female photographer for allegedly sexually abusing her when she slept in a room reserved for guests during a wedding  here on Oct. 14.
A police report said the incident happened around 3 a.m. that day here in Camp 3. It was reported the next day by the 26-year-old victim, a resident of Purok 5, Gabriela Silang, Baguio City who filed complaint against suspect Sennon Ampaguey Landocan, 34, of Ucab Proper, Itogon town.
Investigation disclosed that the victim together with her friend, Jeanilyn Yassan and Jeanilyn’s boyfriend Landocan attended a wedding at the place of incident. Accordingly, while the victim was asleep inside the room owned by Norma Simsim, the suspect went inside the room and inserted his fingers inside the victim's private parts so she screamed prompting the suspect to leave.

Alert cops arrest cell phone thieves 

BAGUIO CITY – Alert cops arrested three young men after they stole an expensive cellphone of a female student here along lower Session Road Monday around 10:20 a.m. in front of Philippine National Bank.
The victim was identified as Kate Balakiao Willie, 20 while  suspects were named as Jay-ar Udiong Mittay, 27, of Purok 4, Gabriela Silang; Derick Tablada Dimacuha, 27,of Balsigan, Campo Sioco and Rudy Claro Pad-eng, 28,of Pinsao.
Investigation disclosed the suspects followed the victim and they aided one another in stealing her Oppo valued at P15,500 kept at the pocket of her sweater. The victim was not aware she was victimized but intelligence cops witnessed the thievery so they arrested the suspects and recovered the cell phone of the victim from their possession.
Inquest prosecutor Margarita Manalo ordered the suspects incarcerated at the city jail.

 Electrician’s GF squeals over theft

TUBA, Benguet – An electrician was arrested here last week after his girlfriend squealed on him for reportedly stealing construction materials and equipment at an auditorium, the project site here at Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ at Barangay Tadiangan.  
The theft was reported at town police station by Pepito Tabin Palapos, 36, married, pastor. 
Cops immediately conducted an inventory on the missing items with still undetermined cost.  The missing items were recovered and seized by Lope Respecio, company safety officer of Greatzone Enterprise at the barracks of the suspect identified as Vhic Dautao Andrada, 44, single, of Casibo, Nueva Vizcaya and stay-in worker at the said project site. 
Accordingly, the live in partner of the suspect, Arlinda Olandag Ariso, told Palapos the missing items were being kept by Andrada at their barracks. Palapos and company went to verify and found missing materials and equipment inside the barracks of the suspect.

Student nabbed inside Baguio PNP station

BAGUIO CITY – A Grade 12, student was arrested at the main police station here for badmouthing a police officer repeatedly.
A case for disobedience to a person in authority was filed against Jefferson Maryano Basilan, 18, of km 4, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet.
A police report said the incident happened Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. inside Police Precinct 1, on complaint of SPO1 Roland Tayaban Onoza, 31.
Investigation disclosed the suspect followed his companions who were nabbed for violation of anti-smoking ordinance of the city.
At the PNP station, Basilan became unruly and shouted while pointing his finger at the complainant saying his friend did not smoke and questioning why he was apprehended.
Complainant advised the suspect to calm down who instead shouted and pointed his finger at the complainant. Complainant cautioned the suspect, but he answered him he didn’t care and was doing this even to his father who is also a uniformed personnel. Basilan challenged Onoza to file a case against him and uttered “bullshit kayo nga pupulis” to the complainant which prompted him to arrest the suspect.
