BANGUED,
Abra -- The Abra Red Cross cited its volunteers on occasion
of International Volunteers Day and its annual Christmas program
held here at ADTEMPCO Conference Hall.
Ivy Venus S. Avendaño,
chapter administrator of Abra Red Cross and the board of directors chaired by
Cresencio Calina gave certificates of appreciation to their volunteer staff in
recognition of their efforts, commitment and dedication in serving humanity.
In her message anchored on the theme “Volunteers
build resilient communities,” Merla Q. Ruiz , manager of DZPA-CMN Radio,
presented pictures of volunteerism that helped the Catholic radio station
reach far areas in Abra in times of need and in monitoring local
and national elections.
The BOD members also
received plaques of appreciation from Philippine Red Cross National
Administrator Richard Gordon through Ruiz and Dr. Maria Teresa B. Beñas,
head of the Philippine Information Agency-Abra who
served as guest speaker during their Christmas program.
Being one of the
long-time volunteers of the Red Cross, Benas shared her experience in
volunteerism in volunteer organizations in the country saying she was inspired
by the adage, “Blessed to bless others.”
She added “no one is too
poor that she/he cannot share anything, just as a rich man is just as happy to
receive a gift, no matter how lowly the gift may be.”
Songs and dances were
presented and prizes were raffled among staff, volunteers, BOD members and
guests. – PIA Abra
