Fil-Chinese Baguio group awards six top contributors

BAGUIO CITY – Six
individuals received plaudits from the Filipino-Chinese community for their
significant contributions to the aspirations of the community and the City of
Baguio during the Spring Festival dinner awards night held Feb. 6 at the Hotel
Supreme.
Awarded
during the program attended by Hon. Zhou Youbin, head of post of the Consulate
of the People’s Republic of China in Laoag City, Mayor Mauricio Domogan and
Mrs. Sol Go were Baguio City Jail Female Dormitory Warden Chief Insp. April
Rose Ayangwa for government service, Engr. Felino Lagman for community service,
Rizaldy Comanda for photo journalism, Engr. Marc Janssen Pe, business
management, Roland Wong, community service and Mark Jefferson Ng, public
relations.
Ayangwa was a
Dangal ng Bayan awardee of the Civil Service Commission in 2017 and was one of
the Outstanding Women Leaders of Baguio also on the same year.
Under her
leadership, the (female dorm) has been elevated to the Red Orchid Award Hall of
Fame by the Dept. of Health for being a “Smoke-Free Facility” and also
recognized in 2018 at the best Regional Program Implementer by the Bureau of
Jail Management and Penology-National Headquarters.
Lagman, an
Outstanding Citizen of Baguio awardee in the field of civil engineering, was
cited for his contribution as a builder who completed buildings for religious
purposes of priests and nuns and for the community.
Aside from
being the founding chair of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, he is
also a member and past president of the Baguio Pines City Lions Club and member
of the YMCA Baguio and the city’s zoning board that recommends policies on
zoning.
Comanda is a
photojournalist of the Manila Bulleting and correspondent of the Amianan Balita
Ngayon who received various awards including the Journalism Leadership Award
from BAPR Foundation and top finishes in various photography contests.
He also
served as photography lecturer and is currently a barangay kagawad of AZCKO
barangay, a post he has held since 1989.
Pe is a civil
engineer and is currently the assistant vice president for operations of the
Shopping Center Management Corporation.
He has been a
member of the Spring Festival Executive Committee for the past eight years
and of the Baguio Fil-Chinese Community that fosters closer ties among
the city’s various sectors.
Wong is the
owner of the iconic Luisa’s Café and an active member of the Rotary Club of
Summer Capital.
“In his own
low-key way, Mr. Wong has also donated his time, talent and treasure to many
activities of the Baguio Fil-Chinese Association in fostering closer ties and
cooperation among the various sectors in Baguio thus earning the title of
‘Coordinator Par Excellence’,” the association noted.
Ng is
also an active member of the association who is also involved in various clubs
like the Baguio City Host Lions Club, Hotel and Restaurant Association of
Baguio and the Baguio Chinese Baptist Church.
The selection
committee is headed by committee on awards chair William Ang and co-chair City
Administrator Carlos Canilao.
