LAGAWE, Ifugao – The
provincial government of Ifugao is set to conduct a training of municipal and
barangay officials on how to extensively convey the core messages of Cordillera
autonomy.
The event was
set Feb. 7 at the Community Development Center here. Coordinated by the
National Economic Development Authority-Cordillera, it is as part of its
advocacy to raise awareness and gain support for Cordillera autonomy advocacy
to hasten regional development.
Local
speakers Rosemarie Lindawan and Roscoe Kalaw, will share their knowledge and
experience with Ifugao officials. Lindawan and Kalaw have been long-time
partners of the Regional Development Council and NEDA-CAR as advocates for
Cordillera autonomy.
The municipal
and barangay officials are a key part in NEDA’s plan to reach as many
Cordillerans as possible.
After their
education on Cordillera autonomy, the officials will be assisted in the
preparation of barangay-level IEC project proposals and will be given tips on
how to communicate the core messages of Cordillera autonomy.
Cordillera
autonomy is viewed as the central theme of Cordillera development. With
autonomy, the NEDA and the RDC envision that the Cordillera will have enhanced
regional identity, responsive policies, and progress for all sectors.
Earlier this year,
NEDA-CAR conducted a similar training in Kalinga where over
40 constituents were trained and committed
to raise awareness of and support for Cordillera autonomy. Officials
from the provinces of Abra, Benguet, and Mountain Province and City of Baguio
were also trained in 2018
