Kababaihan Festival’ kicks off with art, dance, autonomy talks

BAGUIO
CITY -- With the theme “We make change for women,” the Women’s Month steering committee
here has lined up activities in celebration of this year’s Kababaihan Festival
in the city
The celebration kicked
off Tuesday during flag raising and program at the city hall and at different government
agencies.
A forum on promoting
women’s rights was held in the afternoon at the multi-purpose hall headed by
the city human rights action team.
On March 6, will be art competition
at the Baguio City National High School from 8 a.m. at 12 noon to be
participated by Grade 10 students from public high schools.
This is sponsored by the
Soroptimist International North Central Luzon District.
A
forum on autonomy towards federalism will be held at the Nene Pimentel Hall of
DILG by the regional social development committee of the Regional Development
Council and the Outstanding Women Leaders (OWLS) in the afternoon.
During International
Women’s Day on March 8, a Women’s Day program will recognize this year’s
awardees for the city’s annual search for OWLS at the PFVR gymnasium from 8 to
10 a.m.
In
the afternoon will be the One Billion Rising dance along Session Road
from 2-5 p.m.
Dubbed Flash Mob dance,
the activity aims to heighten awareness to end violence against women through
revolutionary dance.
Other activities include
free pap-smear, breast examination and pre-natal check-up at the city’s
district centers and health centers.
There will also be a
month-long advocacy campaign through TV and radio guesting by a pool of women
speakers who will focus discussions on autonomy and federalism, practical
skills training and livelihood program, and promotion of women’s rights, among
others.
This year’s
celebration theme emphasizes women should be active in bringing about positive
changes, and that they should also reap from fruits of development efforts and
full implementation of the Magna Carta of Women.
