Relocation set to Pinsao

By Jessa Mardy Samidan

BAGUIO CITY – The abattoir at the Sto. Niño Barangay will be transferred to the city’s 8.5 hectare property in Pinsao and the old slaughterhouse area will be turned into northbound terminal for public utility vehicles as earlier planned by the Mayor Benjie Magalong.
Project proposals for the development of a new slaughterhouse here in Pinsao will now be accepted.
This was announced by Mayor Benjamin Magalong during the management committee meeting Tuesday as part of the priority projects of the city.
During the meeting, City Veterinarian Brigit Piok suggested that the city seek design proposals from architecture and engineering students in the city and from there, the selected design will be reviewed for possible funding.
However, Magalong opted for the city to accept unsolicited proposals to hasten the process.
Project implementation can either be by administration or through a private-public-partnership (PPP) method.
Piok said project proposals shall include the building and facilities, machineries, water supply as well as a sewerage treatment plant and a separate livestock market from the slaughter’s structure.
The more than two decade city’s abattoir caters to 300 hogs, 20 cattles and two goats slaughtered daily. The city veterinary office inspects the products to ensure safety for human consumption before being sold in the market.
The city’s property in Pinsao will cater the abattoir for one hectare land area while four hectares will be allotted for the development of a waste to energy plant
