NATIVIDAD, Pangasinan --
A police officer here has been hailed a hero after helping a woman to deliver
her baby inside a tricycle.
Capt. Ramil
Mendioro, officer-in-charge of Natividad Police Station said the expecting
mother Elgie Lumiran was already writhing pain when she was taken to a Rural
Health Unit (RHU) in the town at 7 a.m. on Feb. 14.
Lumiran, who
could sense that she was about to give birth, asked her husband to look for a
police mobile patrol so that she could be brought to the nearby Eastern
District Hospital in Tayug.
But it was as
if the baby was, indeed, on the way.
Mendioro said
one of the responding police officers Corp. Joanna Marie Badua found Lumiran
already slumped inside the tricycle, crying in pain.
It was
fortunate that Badua was a nursing graduate.
Badua
assisted Lumiran in giving birth inside the tricycle with the help of Master
Sgt. Ching Ling Salduet.
Badua said she initially
felt that the baby’s head had already moved into the pelvis when she and
Salduet arrived.
Nevertheless, the
policewoman was able to assist and comfort Lumiran until she gave birth to a
healthy baby boy.
