BESAO,
Mountain Province -- Backpacks containing school supplies, hygiene kits, a pair
of slippers and a raincoat were distributed to 63 students of Tamboan
Elementary School (TEC) here in Baramgay Tamboan recently.
The
sets of packages were donated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming
Corporation (PAGCor) in coordination and in partnership with the provincial
government of Mountain Province.
TEC
principal Joy Milan thanked PAGCor for donating bags with supplies.
She also cited the provincial government for coordinating
the request of the school to PAGCor and for providing the needed transportation
of the backpacks.
“These gifts will surely motivate our pupils to continue
their schooling and will save their parents a money in buying school supplies
for their children,” Milan said during the Feb. 2 occasion.
Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr. led the turnover of the
backpacks to the students.
He
was assisted by District II Board Member Henry D. Bastian, Jr. and barangay
officials.
According to the governor, the provincial government is
forging partnerships to help uplift living conditions of provincial
constituents.
“One of the major thrusts of our social policy revolves
around education so we continue to find ways and means to help our children. We
thank the PAGCor for including Mountain Province as one of their priority lists
and we are looking forward to continue our partnership to help our people,” the
governor said.
Meanwhile, in a separate occasion, two wheelchairs as
assistive devices from the office of Sen. Bong Go were also recently turned
over to two PWDs from Bontoc.
The requests of the PWDs were coursed through the office of
Gov. Lacwasan, and were subsequently approved by the senator. -- Erwin S.
