La Union police arrest 3 robbery, hold-up suspects

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Three suspects for robbery hold-up were arrested by police personnel from the Bauang station and La Union Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) during a hot pursuit operation Wednesday afternoon, May 27, a report reaching this camp said.
La Union Police Provincial Office provincial director Col. Jay R. Cumigad identified the suspects as used clothes vendor Alvin Marzan, 35; electrician Roderick Lorenzo, 35; and David Perez.
               Initial investigation disclosed that victim, identified as Robert Buenavista Jr, 21, and a resident of Barangay Payocpoc Norte Este, Bauang, reported to Bauang Police Station that he was victimized by the three suspects held him up at a mini-store at Central East, Bauang, La Union.
The victim disclosed that he and his colleagues were on board of their delivery truck to deliver Pepsi Cola products, when unidentified male suspects on-board a motorcycle blocked their path.
One of the suspects from the motorcycle pointed his Cal. 45 firearm towards the victim, and declared a hold-up then demanded for the sling bag, which according to the victim contained more or less P22,000 in collection money.
During the hot pursuit, suspect Marzan was identified positively by the victim as perpetrator of the robbery hold-up.
Further investigation showed that the suspects connived with each other to perpetrate the robbery hold-up incident.
The suspects were brought to the Caba District Hospital, Caba, La Union for medical examination and subsequently brought to Bauang Police Station for proper disposition.
Cumigad commended the swift action of his policemen and further stressed that LUPPO remained steadfast in its campaign against criminality.
The director also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report to the nearest police station any untoward incident that may occur.


Truck hits tricycle in Nueva Ecija; 2 dead

SAN JOSE, Nueva Ecija – Two persons died when a truck collided with a tricycle along the highway here in Barangay Caanawan on Tuesday.
Police said the driver of the tricycle, Abigail Paragas, 28, and her passenger Gladys Enopia, 38, were pronounced dead on arrival at the San Jose City General Hospital.
Initial investigation showed truck driver John Mapoy, 27, hit the tricycle while overtaking another vehicle.
The tricycle was hit by another truck driven by Gilbert Regadio, 33.
Mapoy and Regadio were arrested.
On the same day in this province, 24 tons of newly harvested corn were left scattered along the highway in Barangay Naddungan, Gattaran when the truck carrying the cargo fell on its side.
