BANGUED, Abra -- Two
days after a teacher was shot dead in here, another manhunt is ongoing for the
killer of a village chief gunned down Tuesday morning.
Jason Bergonia Garcia, the 34-year-old acting chair of Barangay Lingtan, was driving a truck along Barangay Lipcan at around 6 a.m. to buy fish which he sells at his stall when two shots to the head killed him, said Capt. Noel Bagtuna, Bangued police chief.
The truck he was driving rammed into a house by the roadside.
No one was injured. Garcia’s companion was also unhurt.
Bergonia was installed chairman of Barangay Lingtan last September after Claudio Bobias was killed in a knife attack.
It was the second shooting incident in Abra this month, following the killing of 41-year-old Rodelio Claor Bueno in La Paz town on Nov. 1.
The teacher was having a haircut at Santo Nino Barbershop when he was shot at around 10:30 a.m. on All Saints Day, Maj. Carol Lacuata, regional information officer of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera, said.
Bueno, of San Gregorio, La Paz town was shot when the gunman emerged from behind and shot him at around 10:30 a.m. inside the Santo Nino Barbershop on Capitulation Street, Zone 2.
Lacuata said the suspect, believed to be a hired killer, immediately fled after the shooting.
The suspect is now the subject of a police manhunt operation, Lacuata said.
No motives have been established yet behind the twin slays.
