BAGUIO
CITY – Local police on Feb. 6 arrested two persons for making and selling
spurious travel documents and health certificates.
Capt. Marnie Abellanida, information officer of the Police Regional Office Cordillera, said that suspects Ace Codli Dicca and Wilfred Lohan Pinyuhan were caught in the act of selling the spurious documents.
“Our police acted on a report about a computer center at the Central Business District that makes and sells travel documents and health certificate. They did an entrapment and they were able to get document for a fee,” he said in an interview on Friday.
He said the fee depends on the number of persons in the travel document, where the two charges PHP150 for each name added in these documents.
Abellanida said the travel document released to the police officer who posed as a client went with a medical certificate, both of which bore the signature of the authorized signatories — city police director Col. Allen Rae Co and city health services office chief Dr. Rowena Galpo.
A medical certificate is required locally in crossing the borders between Baguio City and the towns in Benguet.
He said a travel document issued by the police is covered by a serial number and the names of the persons who get the document are transmitted to the place where they are going.
“Even before they reach their destination, the receiving place already knows they are arriving,” he said.
He said that they have not intercepted any fake travel documents from those entering the city and the rest of the region but on several occasions, fake polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results have been discovered at border checkpoints of the city.
