LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Benguet Legislative Caretaker Eric Go Yap said he would provide Covid-19 vaccines for frontline personnel of the Benguet General Hospital and local media.
During the inauguration of the Benguet General Hospital Isolation Facility last week, Yap said the House of Representatives is coordinating with National Policy Against Covid-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Sec. Carlito Galvez to procure vaccines for their staff and their families.
Yap said he signified his intention of getting additional vaccines for Benguet prioritizing frontline health workers of Benguet General Hospital and journalists, who are also frontline workers.
He said health workers in hospitals who are dealing and managing Covid-19 probable and positive patients and journalists who are always on the go bringing the news and updates on Covid-19 in the province, need protection from the deadly virus.
He is eyeing initial 600 doses for these two groups.
Yap said he asked Sec. Galvez that Benguet be included in the prioritization of vaccines to be rolled out to local government units.
Due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Cordillera making Benguet among high risk areas, he said there is need to prioritize and protect frontline workers, senior citizens and stakeholders in the province.
In the recent Provincial IATF meeting, Kevin See, Office of the Congressman’s chief of staff, said Yap is reaching out to the private sector like mining companies to partner with his office to help local government units particularly those that are not financially capable to purchase vaccines for their constituents.
The proposal is for private companies to not only buy vaccines for their employees, but to donate to the community.
He said this way, the private companies while protecting their employees, also help safeguard the welfare of the Benguet people. – PIA Cordillera
