LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Benguet General
Hospital Molecular Laboratory is now operational for faster Covid-19 testing
for the province.
BeGH Acting Chief of Hospital Dr. Meliarazon Dulay said that the molecular laboratory is in full swing processing Covid-19 specimen after the Dept. of Health through its Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau issued its License to Operate last February 16.
The license is valid from Feb. 16 to Dec. 31, 2021.
Dulay said the facility can accommodate and process a maximum of 2,700 to 2,800 tests a month or at least 90 specimen in a day. Initially, the molecular lab is processing specimens from the swab tests conducted in the different municipalities of Benguet and those collected by the Provincial Health Office. If specimens are given early in the morning, the test results could be processed within the day.
The maximum number of specimens being tested will increase as the BeGH plans to train more medical technologists to be assigned at the laboratory.
At the moment, there are 10 assigned personnel at the laboratory headed by Dr. Bernadette Baldo, she said.
Dulay bared that they are waiting for another RT-PCR machine from DOH to help in the processing of more swab tests.
Gov. Melchor Diclas said with BeGH molecular lab will help decongest the number of specimens being tested at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and it will also boost the COVID-19 testing capacity of the province.
ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. and Benguet Legislative Caretaker Eric Go Yap is instrumental in the establishment of the molecular lab and its issuance of the license to operate.
Yap vowed to help in improving the testing capacity of the local health facility and ensure that frontliners and the people of Benguet will be tested for Covid-19. – PIA Cordillera
