CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City – Eighteen persons posing as members of the International Police Organization (Interpol) were arrested April 22 in Diffun, Quirino.
The modus operandi of the group was discovered when they were caught violating health protocols at about 11 p.m. in Barangay Balagbag.
The suspects, who were all wearing clothes with Interpol and United Nations (UN) markings, introduced themselves as senior officers of the Interpol based in the Philippines, but they could not show travel documents, police said.
According to Police Capt. Reynold Gonzales, chief of the Diffun Police Station, the group was placed under surveillance after they received reports that the suspects were collecting P2,000 membership fee and P100 monthly due from their victims whom they “recruit” as members of the Interpol.
The suspects will be charged with usurpation of authority and violation of the health protocols. They are now detained at the Diffun Police Station.
