BAGUIO CITY --- Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and San Fernando City La Union Acting Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega agreed to establish a tourism bubble to spur economic recovery between the two cities.
A    technical working group of representatives from administration, tourism, police, and health offices of both local government units shall be created to draft a “Summit and Sea Tourism Bubble.”
Dept. of Tourism   Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who joined the event   virtually, said under the Bubble, Baguio and San    Fernando will allow interchange of tourists.
They will share the same set of entry protocols and have destinations limited to registered accommodation establishments, approved sites, and attractions.
“I am confident that the two cities will be able to make the Summit and Sea Travel Bubble succeed, and will inspire other provinces and tourism destinations to consider implementing a similar, yet effective set-up,” Puyat said.
She said cooperation among government, stakeholders, tourism workers, and local communities is essential, because working together is the only way forward to contain the impact of this Covid pandemic to the tourism industry,   which is a major contributor to the economy.
Magalong said reviving tourism will be done safely, surely, and steadily to make sure no one including tourists and residents are harmed.
This partnership will make both cities thrive again amidst the pandemic because of their natural resources like mountains and trees of Baguio and beautiful beaches of San Fernando, Ortega said.
The memorandum of agreement signed at the Manor Hotel here stipulated individuals, family or groups of people will be allowed to go on same-day round trip, overnight or up to five days “to see and feel the cool highland mountains of Baguio City and temperature breeze of the coves, beaches and waters of San Fernando in a convenient and safe manner.”
The two cities will allow interchange of tourists, with entry protocols and destinations limited to registered accommodation establishments and approved sites and attractions.
Visitors from areas under general community quarantine or modified GCQ will be allowed to enter the bubble using a single registration and unified health and safety protocols.
Tourists must register at visita.baguio.gov.ph for their QR pass.
A point-to-point transportation system will be laid out. – PIA Cordillera
