SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) helped the community pantry of Poro village here through its ‘Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko’ project benefiting a total of 120 families which was held April 25.
“All our command personnel donated their one-day subsistence allowance and purchased additional goods for the community pantry,” said NFNL designated information officer Lt. Jaypee Abuan.
“Their packs were filled with additional assorted goods such as one kilo of rice, eggs, instant noodles and vegetables,” he added.
He said the project was conducted in partnership with the barangay officials and Sangguniang Kabataan's (SK) ‘Parabor Nga Ayat’ (Gift of Love) program, inspired by the Maginhawa community pantry in Quezon City.
“Our institution would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to our long-time partners in the barangays. This endeavor will not be possible without their commitment,” Abuan added.
According to Abuan, social distancing and health protocols were observed during the distribution with supervision of San Fernando City police.
About 300 families also benefited from the same project held in San Agustin village on April 28 in partnership with Philippine Ports Authority and in coordination with the barangay officials.
Meanwhile, in Laging Handa Network News Briefing, Sariaya, Quezon SK Federation president Francis Joshua Alcala expressed his appreciation to the initiative of their constituents, particularly in Tumbaga 1 village wherein farmers did not hesitate to give free vegetables to be placed in the community pantry.
In addition, Alcala also reported that they provided educational supplies to the youth for both modular and online class as well as financial assistance in the form load; school supplies to schools in the barangays for the printing of modules; and distributed relief goods like rice and canned goods from the SK budget of each barangay. – PIA Ilocos
