The Department of Health (DoH) has placed under high epidemic risk the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya, including Tuguegarao City, due to the surge of Covid-19.
On June 5, the DoH-Cagayan Valley Center for Health recorded 411 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases, 165 recoveries and 10 deaths.
On June 7, DoH records showed a total of 4,323 active cases in the Cagayan Valley region, 40,367 recovered with 1,180 deaths.
A total of 45,883 cases have been recorded since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
With the new surge of cases, the DoH has also placed under moderate epidemic risk the cities of Ilagan and Cauayan while the province of Quirino and Santiago City were placed under low risk.
The island province of Batanes was also placed under low epidemic risk.
Meanwhile, the number of people assessed for the inoculation program of the government is piling up in many barangay (village) units in the region due to the low supply of vaccines.
If the supply of vaccines in the region does not improve in the coming months, herd immunity may not be achieved as planned, according to local officials here.
