TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Cagayan's 15th Balay Silangan Reformation Center is now in operation with four drug reformists undertaking rehabilitation.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Director Joel Plaza led the inauguration in Pamplona town on Tuesday, March 8.
So far, Pamplona Balay Silangan is the 40th reformation center for drug surrenders in the entire region.
Plaza said the four reformists who are undergoing rehabilitation will be housed for 30 days under the program.
Pamplona, with 18 villages (17 drug-cleared and one drug-free) is next to be declared a drug-cleared municipality upon completion of all the requirements pursuant to Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation 4, Series of 2021.
"The program is reformatory in nature. It is an alternative intervention for drug personalities who are not users and are not eligible to undergo medical treatment and rehabilitation in facilities supervised by the Department of Health," Plaza pointed out.
Moreover, the program aims to provide continuing education and health awareness, and psychological, spiritual and physical activities such as counseling, moral recovery, values formation, personal and life skills, among others, are provided under the program.
"Livelihood skills training programs which include soap making, massage training, basic carpentry, welding, haircutting, etc., are likewise provided to give reformers employment opportunities," the director added.
In a recent report, the provincial government of Cagayan and the PDEA will soon declare the entire province with 820 villages drug-cleared after it accomplished the requirements.
