TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- The
Kalinga State University through its College of Public Administration and
Indigenous Governance recently launched a signature campaign to push immediate
passage of a pending bill in Congress to establish the Cordillera Autonomous
Region (CAR).
The signature
drive is part of the activities lined up by the provincial government in
celebration of Indigenous Peoples month themed "Cordillera
Lumin-away."
The signature
drive was in response to call of Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang for barangay,
municipal, city, and provincial officials and private sector to head campaign
to gather signatures of Cordillerans in support to autonomy.
The signatures
will be presented to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to convince him to certify
the pending autonomy bill as urgent.
Mangaoang said the
signature campaign should be done during the activities lined up in celebration
of Indigenous Peoples Month.
The Kalinga
solon said the signatures would also show Cordillerans are united to form an autonomous
regional government.
Cordillera
congressmen earlier filed House Bill 3267 to establish a Cordillera Autonomous
Region.
