Yuletide Season precautions
CAMP DANGWA, La
Trinidad, Benguet – Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Mafelino A. Bazar
ordered deployment of police in the
region to ensure safety of the public this Yuletide Season like churchgoers and
tourists going to churches for “simbang gabi.”
The police Regional Operations Division said 1,279 cops were deployed, of which 427 were assigned for road monitoring and those manning terminals.
Some 852 personnel were deployed in places of convergence and commercial areas like public markets, parks, malls, and places of worship to secure safety of the public.
Likewise, 427 personnel were assigned to the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) and ready for deployment anywhere as need arises.
Aside from these, 495 volunteers and force multipliers were mobilized as part of security and crime prevention measures during the celebration of the long holiday.
Bazar ordered police directors of Cordillera provinces including Baguio City to coordinate with local government units in providing traffic management assistance in their localities as the Yuletide Seasons started.
“Tulungan natin sila (LGU) sa management ng traffic nila… mas maganda kung may pulis at traffic enforcer tayo sa junctions at crossing para may mag manage ng traffic,” Bazar said.
With the yuletide season, influx of tourists are expected in Cordillera tourist destinations, he said.
Bazar also instructed police chiefs to present alternate routes and nearby parking areas to be manned by cops to avoid traffic jams on main highways and roads.
The regional director said police rendering office duties in the regional headquarters here could act as additional force manning traffic during rush hours.
“Yung mga pulis natin dito sa regional headquarters pwede nating I-deploy dyan during rush hours. Puede silang mag duty kahit ilang oras lang then balik na lang sila sa opisina kung may tatapusing trabaho”
Bazar pushed installation of signages and the designation of loading and unloading areas for vehicles to observe proper traffic flow and road safety.
“I identify n'yo na ang loading and unloading areas at signboards kung ilan ba ang gagawin… lalo na sa BLISTT (Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, Tublay) areas, talagang maggridlock tayo kapag hahayaan natin hindi ma-address yan” Bazar added.
He told police officers to be courteous while strictly enforcing local traffic ordinances.
In a statement, Bazar urged the public to always stay vigilant while enjoying activities for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
The regional police director also urged the public to immediately report untoward incidents to the nearest police station.
