BAGUIO CITY -- A local official is encouraging residents of the Summer Capital to "make biking a way of life" not only for health and wellness reasons but also to help reduce the carbon footprints generated by motor vehicles.
This was the message of councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday.
The city also inaugurated its first "Biking Mobility Mural" in line with the celebration of February as National Arts Month.
He said that the collaborative activity is also in support of the city government's good governance agenda to protect the environment.
A semi-abstract artwork, Yangot said the mural was conceptualized by the city's bike enthusiasts and painted by the Sin Agi Artists led by himself, an amateur painter, with the participation of young artists from the different villages.
"In this mural, we focused on the future of Baguio's creative sector — our children," Yangot said as he urged everyone to discover their "creative selves."
He said that by the end of February, the city will see the realization of another mural project targeted at saving its watersheds.
Having been declared a Creative City by Unesco several years ago, Yangot stressed that Baguio should be at the forefront of creative endeavors and that its youth should be given all the chances to shine in the field of creativity.
