BAGUIO CITY – This city recorded 45 fire incidents first quarter this year.
The Baguio City Fire Department under the Bureau of Fire Protection bared 15 structural fires, seven vehicle fires, 11 grass fires, nine forest fires, two garbage fires, and one electrical post fire from January to March.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Lloyd Ashley Furigay said they continue to intensify their fire safety campaign amid the high number of fire incidents in the first three months of this year.
He said the main reasons for this are burning of garbage and dry leaves, cigarette butts, playing with lighters and match sticks and bonfires.
Furigay said the BFP conducts fire safety seminars, fire drill training of fire brigades, fire safety inspections in establishments, and fire station visits and radio guestings to further expand fire safety awareness to the public.
“We also have a program called the community auxiliary group, it is made up of barangay officials that we train to be our partners in case of fire and if there is an unexpected event," said Furigay.
He urged residents to avoid octopus wirings, always check the electrical system of their homes, pull out appliances not used, and avoid leaving cooked food unattended.
